Hiking, tennis, spa days, random classes I find usually via Groupon - painting, pottery, cooking class, trapeze :). Local art shows, food festivals, etc.

Sounds like structure may suit you, so I’d say signing up for a fun class that you can do every week but nothing too serious — workout, art, improv, dance, or something like that — I did a screen printing class for a while on Saturdays where I got to try new things and spend a few hours with fun people.

Get into a few hobbies! I recently picked up tennis. I have a class every weekend and try to get practice whenever I can

Outdoor activities! I have a bicycle for all seasons and reasons (road bike, mountain bike, gravel bike, fat tire bike). There’s so much to do depending where you live and time of year - nature/mountain hike, golf, tennis, kayaking, snow shoeing, skating, canoeing, photography, archery, gardening, running, walking, fishing, etc! And yes, I’ve done all the above, some with more regularity than others.

I think jumping into hobbies as an adult by yourself can be daunting so if you’re interested and able - maybe get a pet like a small dog or even a cat? You can take the dog on walks and hikes and training dogs can be really fun if you have the time. I’m on a project right now that is relatively low maintenance and feel like I have so much free time so I’ve taken up yoga and try to read 1 book a week or so which has been fun

There’s an important meeting in two weeks and every one is planning to be in person. With three unvaccinated kids at home, I feel unsafe to be in a room full of maskless people who are making very different lifestyle choices (going out etc) than I am. My older kid wears masks all day in school and social distances - I feel guilty putting her at risk but also have major FOMO to skip the in person. With life returning back, this is going to be the first of many such situat. What would you do?

All-my dad has been guilt tripping me into visiting him. He is 8 hours away driving without stopping. I am pregnant and am not traveling anywhere where I can’t drive non stop - not even seeing my in laws 90 minutes away. I know it sounds crazy but that is where I am. He half jokingly said I could wear Depends. Please tell me I’m not crazy and that it’s okay for me to not go and my dad should be at least somewhat understanding. We don’t have the best relationship.

I just found out I’m pregnant this morning. I have an offer for an in-house job which I’m thinking about to accept but they only provide 10 weeks maternity leave. My current firm offers 18 weeks. Should I stay for the maternity leave? I’m doing great in my current firm and received positive feedback in the performance review last week. But I know I’m going to move in-house eventually so I’m worried if I miss this opportunity it may not be easy for me to land another job.

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.
