Gibson Dunn Denver anyone?
What do you do when you work for a company that has been acquired and everything changes? Everything is remote so there is no in person meetings, we are so busy they have taken all team meetings away and have mandatory overtime. We have lost so many people and I feel that the ones that have stayed are not being appreciated AT ALL! They are not providing ANY type of incentive for the ones who do show up and EVERYONE is getting burnt out. I am looking for another job outside of company.Empower Retirement
1. Meet deadline 2 quick and concise response 3 positive, learning prone attitude 4 smart re common sense things 5 polite 6 keep track of process / send reminders 7 catch details and typos
I agree. I think this covers it!
Try to find the answer before asking for the answer.
I would say:
1. Increased sense of orientation of the firm's DMS system
2. A closer eye in terms of diligence, contract summaries, etc. depending upon my confidence you may even be asked to oversee other first years on diligence.
3. As the equity partner eluded to, while it remains true that you're welcome to ask any questions, and I would prefer you ask anything you're uncertain about, I do expect you to make an effort to figure it out before you ask.
4. You are the DMS / checklist / tracker gatekeeper, meaning you're keeping the latest versions saved down, versioned up, and redlined.
5. Starting to look for you on the first cut of the ancillaries, exhibits, and other deliverables.
6. Most important: responsiveness, a sense of ownership (e.g. make as much of an effort to have it ready to send to partner / client when you send to me (spell check, limited open notes that we haven't discussed, dates, etc.), and a good attitude.
The overall thing that I didn't appreciate about being a junior until I was more senior is that you're number one job (and this goes for all associates) is to make the lawyers' lives above you easier. For those first two years, think of the lawyers above you as your client.
Take responsibility, don’t do your portion then expect me to do menial work that you think is “beneath you” but should have been completed.
Proof your work, be responsive, be proactive in the tasks I assign, and ask questions if you don’t understand an assignment, or get stuck, ahead of the deadline. If I assign you to communicate with a client or opposing counsel, even for routine communication, be polite at all times and show professional courtesy.
In any bit of reading, read the sentence (or paragraph) until the end. It’s a problem that I still struggle with because skimming is almost second nature, but sometimes the answer really is there with a bit of patience.
Follow instructions. Try to figure things out yourself. Look at as much relevant precedent as you can. Responsiveness, responsiveness, responsiveness. Good attitude.
