$4750 one br lux building midtown on high floor. I love it.
I recommend moving to Hoboken. Saved me a ton of money, and there’s nothing like commuting home and escaping the craziness of Manhattan
I pay $5500 for a 1 br duplex. It’s steep but I’ve already given in to the I’m miserable at work so at least I can afford to splurge on my life construct. Anyone who’s saying you can find a decent 1 br Manhattan apt under $4500 in this market is lying.
Enjoy your commute from Ossining, A10 👋
Save the $$$$ - live in a walk up - pay off the loans - be able to escape the golden handcuffs when it’s time.

Why not just get a studio? You would be able to live in any neighborhood and in a doorman building if you wanted for <$4K.
I pay 3995. Wouldnt go over 4200
If you’re not stuck on Manhattan, Astoria and LIC in Queens are great choices. Especially on the river for the view.
You do you boo
Not at all, I think you could pay max 4,500— which is really what you need for a nice 1 bed in Manhattan fit for 1 person
I pay $3,500 for a nice walk up in Manhattan
A17 - May 2022. Not rent stable. Turtle bay.

Why not Brooklyn or queens?
Agreed, I live in 1bdr in one of the high rises in Downtown Brooklyn and pay $3400. It’s a great part of town to live
Stay under $4k
I pay $3,200 for a 1bd doorman building with gym, elevator and pool. 675 sq ft. For the past two years. Check out HK. People just aren’t willing to look for deals. It take me a couple months of research to find this place.
Yes I get it, I’m saying to start doing some market research of buildings and prices in each apt. You know when your lease is gonna be up so you can plan ahead.
My mortgage is less than what you all are quoting. People pay insane amounts to live in a shoebox in NYC.

You’re going to struggle finding places less than that price
Hells Kitchen, $3K for a walkup. No amenities (no gym, laundry, doorman,…). GF pays 1K so I’m effectively paying 2K
Before that: $4.2K for like 7 doormen (Christmas bonuses!), gym, pool, basketball court,… all stuff I didn’t use.
Happy to save 1.2K/month (2.2K with GF paying) or 15-25K/year. Bought a house with that extra money as down payment after 3y…
I’m also a mid level and my friends with one bedrooms in Manhattan or downtown Brooklyn or LIC pay $4.5k to $5.5k. They paid off their student loans by around third or fourth year though. I think what you suggest is reasonable, especially in this market.
Also a mid level biglaw associate with market pay paying 4500 (reduced from 5000, so I was for a year paying 5000). It’s not bad. But this is for a two bed with soon-to-be two kids.
$3750 inclusive of utilities in Midtown East. Was lucky and signed the lease in late 2021 before the rental market went crazy. 1bd, 610 sqft apartment.
I say go for it. If you can afford to do it, then do what is best for you!
