The suburbs of DC and Richmond are both very safe and I’m not sure why this is really a debate point
@DD1 yea and they’re ok, I like black cat too. But there are a few bars in Richmond that play heavy metal so loud it melts your face off and it’s great
I really dislike Richmond. I almost moved there for a relationship and couldn’t stomach it. Every time I went to the “best xyz” I was so disappointed. If you can lower your standard for restaurants and entertainment (and diversity) it’s a chill cheap place to live!
Consultant 1, of course it's a slower pace with less to do as far as entertainment but the trade offs are huge. You can live ten minutes outside of the city, in "Uber range", and have the house you want and easily afford, deal with barely any traffic, great outdoor activities (especially in the summer) and if you end up having a family there are a bunch of areas with great schools. Also, childcare is significantly cheaper.
E1 I agree! It depends on what you value. It’s hard not to compare when you grew up in a bigger city
Lol captech stop making us look bad, I work in the dc office. Richmond was one of the homicide capitals in the 90s/early 2000s. It’s gotten a lot better with VCUs expansion but nova is too busy sitting in rush hour to be causing shenanigans
Just was there! Cheap, great food, and nice old colonial homes. It is still the south with all that comes with that. Why are you moving?
My hometown. Will definitely feel smaller but it’s a nice place to live
I just like the bars in Richmond. Big rock and roll scene down there, need to escape the cultureless void that is DC
Richmond is awesome, I grew up there and plan to move back once everything lines up. But yes, it is very much "the South" so there's good and bad that comes with it.
It’s awesome here! Let me know if you want any tips, etc. I’ll send a burner
Not as nice? As opposed to the high crime rates in NOva.. okay...
Lol wasn’t even talking about crime, I was talking about the prevalence of new construction and luxury residences in the arlington/fairfax/tyson’s area. You won’t get that in Richmond, which is a turn off for some. If we want to discuss crime though Neighborhood Scout has richmond ranked as only safer than 2% of US Cities. Richmond’s homicide rate is 4 times that of the average in VA. Northern Virginia is an incredibly safe place to live. So I’m not really sure what you’re basing the high crime argument against living in nova on.
Agree w/ @D1. Great town. I’ve heard of people moving from DC to Richmond to accept a higher paying gig coupled w/ the lower cost of living. So there’s also that
Richmond proper or like Short Pump?
gross
@Op we have good bars in DC. Have you been to DC9, Lyman’s, or the velvet lounge?
VCU
Yep, good point.
I live in Northern VA and really enjoy visiting. There are definitely downsides to living there, namely it’s not as nice and still a little rough around the edges...but it’s cheap as hell, fun, and easy to get around.
