If you are already paid by them and have deferred comp with them them then ESOP is adding further exposure to a single name. Likely also for many here their eer is also a constituent of many ETF and funds that you will naturally be invested in. Lehman, Bear, Enron have all shown what that single name exposure can result in.

If your eer offers the backdoor Roth then use that. Otherwise you are working with a taxed account at the brokerage firms your eer allows you to use.

Hey mummas, I'm struggling with how I feel about my team at work. None of them, including my manager, have children and they just don't get it. I'm pregnant with my third and my manager has never once asked me how I'm doing, only ever refers to it in terms of me 'leaving' for maternity leave so he'll be a resource down. Never once asked how I'm coping with juggling wfh & full time caring for my children through covid, and icing on the cake my baby just recently.. (continued in comment)

Unpopular opinion- maxing out your 401K is overrated. I would rather have the money for other investments that I can access now ( ie real estate). Thoughts ?

Is this reasonable or am I missing something? I started maxing my 401k from year 1 and I hope to have $5 million or more by the time I retire around 60. Wouldn’t it make sense to put all of my yearly $19,500 401k contribution to ROTH 401k instead of traditional 401k? My reasoning is that I would pay 35% tax now and my remaining 65% would grow tax-free in ROTH 401k…. versus traditional 401k where I deposit 100% but every distribution will be taxed 35% assuming I make a lot in retirement.

Right now I’ve got a fat lump sum just sitting and wasting in savings.

I’m curious to hear from people at other firms what is offered in terms of part time work or alternative work options for people that don’t really care about making partner and might want to work part time. I just had my second child and want to ask to come back from maternity leave on a part time basis but our firm doesn’t seem to have anything in place right now. If your firm offers this, what’s the billable requirement, how much of a pay cut is it, and do you still get benefits? Thanks!

I am currently working as Senior Consultant in my current firm and just got an offer from Deloitte UK and Version1 for HCM Cloud practice. Version1 pays more (75k basic + quarterly profit share) and has good employee centric policies where else Deloitte has 60k basic + 5100 in flex benefits and no clarity on bonus. The only reason why I wanted Deloitte was for the exposure but is it really worth it? Considering the work life balance may not be as great here as well. Will appreciate any help

It seems like the work life balance at MBB is always described as horrendous. But how does Bain keep receiving the number one best place to work per glassdoor? Heck, they received an award for best places to work for parents. Are they paying for that ranking? Is Bain really not that bad? Just seems to be some conflicting info.

My (white) manager consistently gives me feedback that I’m “very literal” when doing assignments. She asks for something, I do what her directions say, and she tells me “oh you took that very literally. You’re very literal.” Obviously consulting is subjective and we’ve all had managers give vague directions leading to multiple iterations of work, but at what point do I push back? I’ve also noticed her say this about several black colleagues including clients and the senior mgr on the project.

I work with several people with kids and I have noticed quite often that they completely disregard any issues of people with no kids and try to one up work life imbalance conversations with stories of them being parents. It must be hard being a parent but I don’t think people at work should be treated differently or given any additional consideration just because they have a kid. You already get parental leave so If I’m expected to work 12hr I ask the same to be expected from my peers with kids.
