Not needing a car to get around is a huge factor for me. Having easy access to some of the best museums, theaters, and concert venues in the world. Being fortunate enough to live a block from Central Park.
But maybe the simplest explanation is just the energy of the place. I love walking around the city and just soaking in the different vibes of the various neighborhoods. Read “Here is New York” by E.B. White to get a way more eloquent description of what I’m getting at.

The energy! The fact that every single time I leave my apartment I see the city in a different way or observe something new. It’s fascinating to me that so many people exist with different stories and possibilities!
The outdoor spaces specifically Central Park, Battery Park, Brooklyn Bridge and Prospect Parks
Having access to the best/most popular foods early on. My friends who live in other cities always make food a priority here and usually the popular chains will slowly open restaurants in other cities - but nyc is usually the first (think levain cookies, lady m cakes, momofuku etc).
Being able to access things so easily is something I definitely take for granted until friends visit
It’s home (I’m a native from Brooklyn) and you can experience so many different cultures right here

Like living a movie when taking a walk, as one doesn’t know if there’d be a psycho stabbing ppl randomly on the street.
Hahahaha. This is what you dream of in a city? Oh New York. Home sweet home.
