What do you really do after becoming an adult and being okay with your job, relationships etc? Just seems like things are getting mundane. There's not that many new things I want to try, good with savings, have travelled, have hobbies. What else is there?

Have kids?

Exactly. A happy and stable home is the kind of place we want kids to be born into.

Have fun, and try to help others. :) and then have some more fun. When you have a midlife crisis, which will happen, don’t do anything stupid. Build a support network that watches you and makes sure you don’t blow it all up. Then have some more fun. And help some more people :)

This is where you become a boring adult. It is boring because you’ve experienced a lot and you’re generally fulfilled. You shift your focus to making the world a better place, helping others, valuing quality over quantity. And although the boring stuff isn’t exciting anymore, sometimes it’s what you need.

like

Have kids and/or find a different "greater purpose" than serving your own wants.

like

If you’re living comfortably, do whatever you want in that moment, that day, that week, etc. That’s the purpose of becoming an adult and building financial freedom. Do what you want not what you need to do.

Focus on your friends. It’s so important as you age to have good friends you do everything with.

Read more. Learn new things outside of work. Have kids. Help others. Join the board of a nonprofit. Accept your own mortality and use that as motivation to make every day count and to leave the world a better place.

Was feeling the same so I got a puppy! Every day was a new adventure and then was thankful when that pup energy leveled out and life got a little more mundane again. I’m sure I’ll be on the lookout for something else to shake things up soon, it’s like a cycle.

Tell me it’s ok not to want another child. Tell me that having one kid is enough and he won’t regret not having a sibling. I am not mentally ready for another child. Older parents: I need your help. Currently 36 soon to be 37. Wife is same age (-12 days). We’ve delayed kids, 95% due to me. I’m starting to regret holding off and feel terrible that I’ve not enabled one of my wife’s goals. I have hesitation that I’ll be a good dad (my childhood wasn’t the greatest, and I realize that’s holding me back) and now I’m wondering if I’m just too old to even consider it. Any advice, questions, comments, criticism welcome. Guess I just need to talk about this.

I wish people would think clearly and hard about having children beforehand. Working as a school counselor and a youth therapist, so much trauma starts early simply because parents don't know any better or do what they were taught. It's tough when it isn't abuse or neglect, but it's still having a negative impact on the child's life. Should I recommend family therapy? Is it overstepping to recommend the parent go to private therapy as well?
