From experience (I have prior exp in pharma) and from colleagues in industry (incl. non-consultants - I come from a school heavily focused on pharma), the big pharmacos that have the best rep and people want to serve/work are generally JNJ and Roche/Genentech.

like

Agree. Loving JNJ!

like

Worked at JNJ & Bayer and had clients all across the industry — would say JNJ. Great culture, diverse therapeutic areas you can move around in, actual clout with non-pharma peeps (LOL). Other major names like Roche/Genentech, Novartis, etc aren’t too far off though.

like

Agree on Novartis and JNJ- both are my clients now, and they’re just really good people to work with

def not my current client 🥴

From my experience so far I would say Genentech. I would say the most strategic pharma imo is Pfizer .

I mean there’s definitely a difference when you look at people who talk about it from a consulting side vs and industry side. And I do watch it closely, soon I’ll be back within one of those companies 😏

This may be true, can’t confirm that tbh. I know contractors in general were treated as 2nd class citizens

like

Second that. Genentech is one of the best - if you want to balance out work life and opportunity to be more aggressive in your career. Several internal consulting positions and rotations. Lots of perks too.

On the business/commercial side. Don’t know on manufacturing or IT side.

like

Amgen on west coast is a competing option as well. Not as chilled as GNE though.

like

Genentech is going through extensive changes. One comment was people leave at 4PM. I think the Gal in charge of headcount must have noticed, too. 114 people laid off at HQ pre-COVID as part of restructuring.

helpful

West Coast Genentech no doubt

Out of curiosity, why does Genentech appear to be a good opportunity?

Yes, relaxed but they're also hard workers and smart individuals. Based on info from my buddy at Wharton I believe they are the only pharma company that recruits there. I feel like that says a lot about them being a top tier organization. Also, being a subsidiary of Roche gives them some freedom to operate without worrying.

like

Vertex

Their monopoly on CF will hold them well into the future with all the BD deals they’ve done. Plus their pipeline is full of high unmet need products with very low overhead requirements to reach full potential (I.e. not oncology)

Abbott.

Hi, new to this bowl ☺️ I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to put my money, if not in a regular savings account? I’m so so grateful to have graduated from college over a year ago with no debt and I have minimal living expenses, so I’ve been able to save a lot. A percentage of my paycheck goes towards my company Roth 401K and company stocks, but I feel clueless about how to be smarter with my money and not let it ‘collect dust’ lol.
