I think I made a faux pas during a discussion with a recruiter when asked what my salary expectations were. I KNOW not to give my number first but I was so caught off guard by the question since it was our initial discussion that I just blurted out a range. Hi everyone! Idk if I need advice or I’m venting but I’ve been looking for jobs actively right now and want to make a switch soon. There’s a gap in terms or compensation for the jobs I’m being approached for. These jobs offer the same compensation I’m at or slightly higher (5-7%). This is demotivating and I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t make an awful lot (105K in NYC) and I’m looking for a 20-30% bump in terms of compensation. Am I crazy here?
