What do you think of targeted retirement date ETFs?

Right now my whole 401(k) is in FAJTX (2055 target date). I want to increase the risk, but I’m not sure where to go.

I think in general target date mutual funds are fine. I prefer target date index funds but looks like that may not be an option for you. When you say you want more risk what kind of risk are you talking about and why? This fund is probably 90 percent equity and 10 percent fixed income. You could obviously just pick a couple equity funds that may or may not do better than this. I think this fund would likely be fine for anyone but I would see if you have a sp 500 fund and an international index fund and use them

I don’t know this one in particular but typically the appeal of them is a low expense ratio and no required maintenance. If you are open to increasing risk, you can allocate maybe 5-10% of your funds to a high growth ETF (I.e. ARK) or a basket of stocks you like. The target fund is likely properly diversified so you don’t need to worry about that

Ah good point. Maybe a growth fund / small cap fund would fit the mold

You can invest in an SP500 fund and a growth fund and halt investments to the target date fund for the next 5 years or more. Then recheck to rebalance. With retirement still far away you can be all equities without much to worry about.
I did the same restructring with mine, last year.
