We don’t have older kids yet, but from talking to other parents, they sometimes pay a high school or college student to do pick ups and drop offs to after school activities. This way, the person can make some money, but can also do school work while waiting for the activity to be over, etc. It is cheaper than a nanny and having a part time schedule may work better for them.
A lot of families in my neighborhood also do the “high school student” hire for after school. It seems to work well for them!
Not sure how to edit...we are both considering new jobs.
Mine are 6 and 8. We have a part-time nanny who picks them up at school and drives them to /from activities. If they didn’t have a lot of activities after school I’d probably make do without help. A lot of people I know just rely on carpools.
We have a nanny that picks ours up from school (230-345 daily). Then the kids (ages 9 and 12) come hang here and we muddle through u til we take them to activities at 530ish. I’ve had a hard time finding high school kids that could get to my elementary school in time for pick up.
