It depends on why you are unhappy. If it’s fixable (for example working with a team you hate), I would tell them. If it’s not fixable (general discontent and looking for a change of pace), try to avoid saying you are happy/incriminating yourself.

They just want to check in

See if someone from HR is also scheduled to attend hehe

I think these meetings got a bad reputation after last summer. Most just want to check on your well being.

You are a valuable part of their organization. So they want to know how you are doing and whether there is anything they can do to help you be more valuable.

What do you want out of the conversation?

Just wanted to comment the fact that we want to be re warded make sense but when we are recruited, rewarded was not a recruiting strategy deloitte implemented. What I’m trying to say is, we wanted to enter deloitte ourself, knowing the brand power. Therefore, there are sacrifice on the tough situation, which firm should hire more resource. But being aware of that during those meeting is crucial

I see a lot of posts about people complaining that no one cares and they are just bodies. I don’t feel that way about my colleagues who work on my teams. I do check-ins quarterly with the 15 (or so people on my team). But then when there is a partner who is reaching out to see how you’re doing, and wants to have a genuine conversation (I assume), people give it grief.

I’d be fairly open to the concept snd see of it goes. If it seems genuine, have an honest and real conversation. Ask them questions you might not be able to ask outside of a 1/1 setting. Just my two cents.

They want to know if you’re trying to leave.

Can I ask what you talk about on these calls? They're super awkward and tbh if I'm unhappy, I'm not exactly going to tell my boss I'm thinking of leaving. How do you get through these calls without revealing your true feelings?

Man people overthink every single aspect of this job. It's literally just a check in. To say howdy.

I’m a first-year corporate associate planning on leaving in Sept. for a 2-year MBA. The idea when I first registered for the MBA was obviously to move away from BigLaw, but I’m not opposed to coming back to the firm.

How do I go about breaking the news that I’m leaving in a way that doesn’t burn bridges or make partners upset? I’m still a few months out so idk if it makes sense to tell them now. But I also already know for certain that I’m leaving, so I’m worried that sitting on it is worse.
