Surely there has to be a reason you posted this on here instead of just googling market comp?

likefunnyhelpful

Not really since I’d have to look it up then answer which is one extra step to you just looking it up.

If you can’t bother to google associate salary, truly doubt you’ll make it as one

@A4: Depends. Some firms have been doing nationwide office matches to combat the likes of Goodwin doing permanent remote hires from any market.

So, agreed on the second point that these “may” not apply. But these are not necessarily only for major markets. They apply to some secondary, and even tertiary, markets depending on the firm.

Quite a bit!

3rd - 250k + 57.5k
4th - 295k + 75k
5th - 345k + 90k

Bill Moore (lol) aka Nonequitypartner on Instagram has a story of comp matches for 2022. But those salaries represent amounts in large markets (ex NY/LA). You should acquaint yourself with BL before applying or interviewing for two reasons. First, just because you’re in a major market at an AmLaw 200 doesn’t mean your firm pays “market” (“the Cravath Scale” it’s been referred to as historically because Cravath traditionally announced raises first, and other V50s followed). Second, buddy. When you go into an interview you should act like you’ve been there before. Even if you haven’t. Because nobody is interested in bringing associates around millionaire clients if they’re just going to gawk at dollar signs lol.

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.

Kind of niche question here but under NY CPLR, if a plaintiff files a MTD/MSJ, and then the defendants file opposition papers containing information that the court had previously ordered to be kept under seal, would you a) file a reply asking to seal/strike the opposition papers or b) file a separate OTSC since you’re now seeking additional relief not sought in the original motion?
