Equity means that each student gets what they need to learn the same thing. So if I came to school and I had not eaten breakfast and my classmates had, then I would ideally get breakfast so that we all can at least have food in our bellies when we do the first lesson. If one student is thirsty and another is hungry they don’t all get water. Some get food, some get water. One might even need more water than others. Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade says it best. Equity is not necessarily equal. A disabled person is to use the elevator to get up to the upper floors. Everyone riding the elevator is equal… Equity is that the person who needs that support gets it even if the other people do not.
Every child gets what they need to be successful.
