⬆️⬆️⬆️ Don’t be a dick. They may have just got promoted - we all know there’s zero training these days. This is the place to ask, “stupid questions.”
Don’t apologize to assholes. You’re fine. Ask away. Producer 2 was once on their first job and had just as many “dumb” questions. Your co-workers appreciate you getting ahead of the game
If the call is with you line producer, I always go over every single thing I talked about with the EP or bidding producer at the production company. Sometimes info can fall through the crack when they are onboarding their line producer. I make sure I go over everything again. It may feel redundant but it has saved my ass in many cases
You’re a producer?
Also, a production is like a big puzzle. Lots of moving parts. Think things through to your live or ship date. Anticipate potential problems and issues. Never assume anything. It’s your production and you control it. Edit the work in your head the day you shoot. Missing anything that would make the story better or maintain continuity? Then talk with your creatives and then ask the Director for it. And lastly, remember to have fun!
I do a pre bid packet (everyone signs off on what I’m going to price out) then bid preso (talk about what I priced out and our options), then a post award huddle (talk about any revs to treatment) then pre pro meeting (final huddle before shoot). Also, I’llinclude any specific pre production meetings like casting approvals or wardrobe, etc. before the shoot. hope this helps you learn. And remember most of this comes from experience. There’s no text book.
It’s a fair observation. I’m rather green in the world of agency producing. Primarily worked on narrative and doc features. Past agency work has been with many senior hands in the pot. Now i’m winging it a bit on my own. The language is a bit different but the numbers still write the same.
Have your account peeps arrange a pre pre pro mtg with the client to go over casting specs, location(s), client product details and the schedule. You want everyone on the same page as you head down the production road with your Director. Then you arrange a call with the Director and his team to go over the details you got from your client. Lots of communication will keep you on track and agency and client happy
@Producer 2 sure. But some places can't afford large production teams, mentorship, or even have great processes. I've really valued this platform as a place to learn and teach others and hope people like you don't ruin it for the rest of us.
Also get to know your business manager. I felt weird at first "bothering" her but they are there to support you
Following. I may have experience but it’s interesting to see what others are doing. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Omg we're so excited like 6 times in a row.
Concept, deliverables, key dates, budget window, idk this is a pretty vague question
Sometimes, once Im awarded, dependent on the scope and detail, I'll walk the internal team and the client through a pre-pre-pro meeting. This goes over next anticipated steps, expectations, pre-production calendar, and outstanding questions leading up to the pre-pro. I find these types of meetings to be extremely valuable to the process and education of the team and account.
Really helpful stuff. Thanks 🙏
Just trying to be thorough too, sorry for the dumb question.
I recognize that no one is born knowing the steps to this stuff but why isn’t there support in the actual workplace this shouldn’t be where people need to come to learn how to do their job
Lol I’m pretty sure this one specific gripe isn’t gonna ruin the entire platform
Hoenstly sometimes they aren't even necessary. I was on two today and it felt good for everyone but not a lot of heavy lifting.
Casting and location specs alignment are usually the two main things because Prodco needs to get going on those. References to circulate ahead of the call can help.
Budget and deadline. Shocking how often those topics are avoided.
