What does growth look like for a typical recruiter. What’s the next step in their career? I’ve been a recruiter for 3 years now and thinking about doing an online MBA while still working.. is that a good move?

It depends on your next move. If you love recruitment I would rather recommend you to expand into employer branding and learn digital marketing and social media tools for that. If you want to move into HRBP - take courses on labor law and get certifications first

Depends on your interests. There are a number of recruiter certifications you can get. If you’re going for an MBA I’d imagine you want to manage? Happy to provide guidance further.

Yes I’m definitely interested in management. Some people who know me best have suggested that I specialize in Marketing Management. I’m currently a recruiter for a tech startup and I enjoy it but I would also like to grow, within the company as well. They’re a very flexible group of people who would create positions for talented people if there’s a good fit, so gaining an MBA would definitely open up more windows of opportunity for me within the company

+1 on it depends. Are you interested in leadership, Corp, Exec or Agency recruiting. Need a little more info about current state and future career goals.

Why not scale the recruiting function? Build process and candidate experience? DEI initiatives? Employer and personal branding? There’s so much

I was in a similar position and chose to go into management. I got my SHRM Talent Acquisition Specialty credential and I'm a year into my online MBA in Business Analytics. I'm about halfway through my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program through San Diego State University. It's self paced and has helped me a lot with managing an ATS integration my team is working on. I'm hoping to get promoted to Director, but I'm guessing that will happen after I've finished my MBA. I encourage you to research your options and choose the path best suited to your needs. There are a lot of ways to get from point A to point B and you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money to get there.

Thank you for the advice! Very helpful...

I was in management when I pursued my MBA. I chose to do it because it gave me a business perspective that I was missing having been in recruiting for years. Sure, we learn the business as we grow but the level of understanding & conversation with the business has changed considerably. I feel more like a true business partner and add more value based on what I learned. Also, the MBA provided leadership skills that were a difference maker.

like

Yes that’s one of the reasons that I want to do an MBA... although I understand the process of recruiting, I would like to understand the nuances behind running the business. I’m at a startup and such a perspective is valuable.. thank you for your reply!

Hey fam. Appreciate your inputs on this: I used to be a software developer and currently work as a tech risk consultant (CISA, CRISC certified). Have completed a couple of cyber courses but do not have prior cyber experience. Most cyber sec job postings require prior experience in cloud, aws, devops etc. Applied to a couple of roles but no avail. A) Can I start a career in cyber security without prior experience? B) Will CISSP or relevant cyber certifications help?

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?
