What does someone in a “Chief of Staff” role do in industry vs consulting? Genuinely curious, it seems like an above and beyond role, but I’m not sure I fully understand what those extra responsibilities entail!

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

I am leaving retail pharmacy after 15 years. I am opening a 403b pharmacy for a FQHC. I don't believe that retail pharmacy will be able to sustain itself with patient costs skyrocketing. I'm the hiring mgr for designers in my org. I recently discovered pay band information given to me by the HR generalist I'm working with on hiring was outdated and updated bands had been released over the summer (prior to my hire date). The outdated information had led me to believe a prime candidate was out of range. Aside from incompetence, can anyone think of a reason why HR might have withheld information about the pay bands? I spent a year in tax investigations where I believe I was thriving ( I was going to be an assistant manager in July 2023), I had a lot of assistant manager jobs, I even drafted a Code 9 report to HMRC which my manager said was 80% of an actual report, he then added the 20% and submitted it.
After I realised I couldn't maintain all the unpaid overtime I was working I decided to take a turn and go to compliance, so now I work in CT compliance. I feel very surpressed.

California small firm attorneys - how is your firm handling the latest shutdown orders?

Everyone remote? Declaring yourselves “critical infrastructure”? Adhering to capacity limits but still meeting with clients?

(I should also add, I’m in estate planning & trust administration. Earlier CA orders specifically exempted legal practice re death and incapacity. Newest ones now seem silent.. Ugh, who knows anymore.)

Currently CTC = 14 LPA (Fixed + Variable)
