So I work at a healthcare PE firm. I am the National Senior Director of Analytics. I don’t know SQL or any coding language, but I do know Power Bi, Qlik, and Tableau pretty well. My job is to craft the overall business intelligence strategy for the firm and its portfolio entities...
While I don’t have technical skills, I oversee technical people because I can craft the strategy, I can work the business side (having come from the business side) to understand needs and requirements, I can generally guide/set priorities/manage/engage with the technical team; essentially I can speak knowledgeably to both sides. I see this position becoming more apparent, especially in healthcare.
So, short answer, yes, you can progress despite not having strong technical skills, just have to find the right role/company, but there is no set path... at least not in healthcare, yet .
That’s really inspiring. Thank you SD1!!
It really depends what you mean by non-technical. I would think a data governance and privacy or BA roles could be possible without being super technical. Governance and privacy are huge so you can progress through the consulting ranks or move to industry.
Thank you, guys!!!
I’m currently doing Qlik Dev/BA, but I’m not planning to focus too much on the technical side. Right now, I’m expanding my knowledge in analytics and AI areas. Hoping to steer my career into strategy in the future.
