I recently got approached by the HR team of an external company with a job opportunity that appears to be attractive from responsibility/job function perspective. It would be a huge boost to my career growth if I got it. He already scheduled the initial interview with the hiring manager for me. I keep thinking that they are using me to get an internal candidate promoted. I know for a fact I can do the job fabulously btw.Thoughts?

I believe McK is fastest at about 6 years to Partner with BCG/Bain 7-8 years. BCGs first promotion point is sooner than Bain (Manager is not a real promotion), but they then have more levels
McK: Associate (2 yrs) -> EM (2 yrs) -> AP (2 years) -> Partner
BCG: Consultant (2 yrs) -> PL (2 yrs) -> Principal (2yrs) -> Fake Partner (2 yrs) -> MDP
Bain: Consultant (2 yrs) -> Manager (0.5-1 yr) -> SM (2.5 yrs) -> AP (1-3 yrs) -> Partner
So when you make partner at McKinsey in 6 years, you’re a full blown partner? There isn’t a junior partner vs a more senior partner distinction like there is at BCG? And is the pay pretty comparable at every level amongst the 3 firms or are there significant differences depending on the level (eg maybe BCG or Bain jumps ahead with more promotions)
Bcg has an additional level. At Mck, after AP you are a Partner and at BCG the equivalent role is MD&Partner. They have another unequity Partner role so McK is the fastest track to equity Partner.
I see. Can anyone comment on these expected progressions (based on what I glean from LinkedIn):
BCG: Consultant: 2 years > PL: 1.5-2 years > Principal: 2 years > Partner: ? years > MDP
McKinsey: Associate: 1 year > Sr Associate: 1 year > EM: 2-3 years?? > AP: ? years > Partner
Bain: Not as familiar with since I don’t know too many bainies
AP can be anywhere from 1.5-3.5 years depending on how well you do, with most getting it around 2-2.5 years
