What does “VP” mean in an agency? (Other than Vice President)

They didn’t want to give you more money so they gave you the same title as 43 other people.

It means 💰💰💰 ...VP just means you probably can’t get a promotion to the next level but you’re still being recognized with mo money and mo problems. Hence why there’s all sorts of titles with VP in them. Think of it this way, if you’re a Creative Director VP, that’s probably because they can’t/won’t promote you to GCD. Same applies for the rest.

Oh no. I just meant they can’t/won’t promote you at the time. Often times, the actual role for the promotion isn’t open but the agency wants to recognize you so they “promote you” to VP in the interim.

Video production? If you’re strictly talking acronyms.

For the Vice President title it typically revolves around bonus structures, vacation and stuff like that. Then those increase and shift as you go through SVP and EVP. It’s not really a job title as much as it is an inventive structure.

Depends on where you are and how large the agency is. Smaller agency the title likely has a bit more cachet to it. Bigger agency where 20 other people have the same title it’s more of a proving ground to see who is able to go to SVP/EVP/MD.

What's the actual context of your question, OP? I'm not aware of it meaning anything other than Vice President, in ad agencies or any other type of company, when it comes to titles. I see and understand the other comments about how common and lackluster of a title it is these days (and not only in advertising), but can't tell if you're asking rhetorically or not.

Very Pretentious

Business cards. Or used to.

Incentive structure but also behavior structure. There used to be an expectation that you advance in those types of “officerships” by setting positive example, leading through your behavior (actions and words), advance growth for the agency, all that stuff...

The VP/SVP/EVP titles were called something like that in a document I read from my agency about 10 years ago. 🤷‍♀️

Eligibility for senior leadership team bonus money pool. Maybe an office!
