What does writing about reading look like in your classroom? Do you grade students’ readers’ notebooks ?

I usually set dates for check-ins. I’ll set a goal with students on how many entries they should have in their journal by each check-in date, and then I give them a grade based on their achievement of that goal. The goals are often personalized for each student. This also gives me a chance to talk about their reading with them, and gives them a chance to share.

I get that!! We do a weekly reading log and it’s such a struggle. I’m trying to think of a way to make it better for next year

I took advantage of Verizon’s Black Friday deals and got myself the new iPhone yesterday. I’m AMAZED by all the neat things it can do. One of my favorites is that you can grab text from a picture and have it read aloud. This would be so helpful for my students with vision needs and those with reading disabilities. When do we think we’ll actually see this technology in the classroom? Can’t very well put “iPhone” on a students assistive tech section of their IEP 😂

I have a student with autism. He is mostly behavioral and at a lower learning level so he has to be in a separate classroom. We try to let him play with the students at recess or join in class parties. He has a sibling that attends school as well. When we were waiting in car line a group of girls talked about how they feel so bad for the sibling because of my student. Thankfully, neither student or sibling heard. But how do I respond to that as an adult? Especially, if they do hear?

Dropping this in a few bowls, sorry if you see it twice. I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school. Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return. Thanks to everyone for your commitment and time, enjoy your summer!

Hey teachers! Have any of you ever used the program Transmath? It is a math program for secondary students. I am a high school inclusion special education teacher, and this year I am teaching a math class for some of my students using this program. I would love to hear if any of you have used it before and what it looks like in your classroom! Thank you!

What projects are working for you on a cart? So far, weaving and fiber is going great for me. It leaves little mess in their classrooms and doesn’t require a ton of supplies on my cart. Supplies are also inexpensive.

Special Education teachers and General Education teachers should work as a team together to help students mainstreaming, to be successful in the classroom.

Anyone else an elementary specialist who gets called to help behavior kids, remove them from their classrooms if being unsafe and supervise them in a “safe room” type of setting? If so, how much of your own teaching are you missing in a typical day and what kinds of support is your district offering you? Right now, I am dealing with behavior kids for 1-4 hours daily (I’m the reading specialist). Almost non-existent support from the district. Just curious what it looked like in other places.

Zscaler sales position vs EY? I’m a technical guy and I’ve been at EY 2 years and can’t stand that they AGAIN made the mistake to staff me on a non-tech compliance audit rather than a technical or strategy project. I hate it. Just saw the trailer for Santa Inc. Funny premise, will watch with an open mind. Still seemed closer to an attack on Christmas as a holiday than poking fun at Christmas specials. Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman are Jewish. No issue there; they’re free to make the movie. But imagine if it were Mel Gibson and Hanukkah instead. If somehow greenlit, there would be outrage (rightfully so). I don’t take offense with Santa Inc., but I can’t help but notice a double standard.
