Laughing in billable hours
I’ll be short of RSM’s billable hours goal of 1600 by around 300 hours by the end of fiscal year end. How fucked am I?
Have any of the independent contractors in this bowl ever had a kick-back clause in their contracts - meaning, have you had to pay a rebate/kick-back based off of your previous year's billable time?
Anyone else have family members who don’t understand that I can’t take personal calls/texts all the time because I’m trying to meet my daily billable goal?
Am being held on the bench for over a month now for a series of projects that keep falling through. Have had multiple projects reach out to staff me on billable work, but my group’s head partner keeps going behind my back and blocking it from happening. I’ve never been so annoyed, I want to do work
Tax work at my law firm is not enough to keep me busy. Maybe I could start doing work in another department to supplement my billable hours. Is anyone here a part timer in another group? I’m thinking investment funds or start ups? Anyone else do this and any advice?
Currently a second-year associate at a regional firm. I have become really unhappy with the life-style at a firm and the constant stress of meeting my billable requirements. It was always my goal to go in-house, but I know I likely lack the requisite experience to make a move somewhere that can offer meaningful advancement. Any advice? I know it will likely be that I need to “stick it out” for a few more years, but I am just extremely dissatisfied with the prospect of being at a firm for years.
Is there typically a grace period to get billable requirements met when starting at a new firm? I started the first week of May. I'm about 90 hours short of a 170 requirement for the month. I have work, but it's big file review type stuff that takes a lot of actual time. Should I be sending out resumes, or killing myself to get these hours in by the 31st? I'm not a new lawyer, but am new to this practice area. They poached me from my last firm.
Busy season check - rate your happiness from 1 to 10 and your average billable hours per week (10 being like a rock star happy) 🤠
Can someone provide insight into firm culture at Troutman in Atlanta? Trying to decide whether I should head there or choose a smaller boutique firm. Both are similar in terms of billable requirements, and have comparative compensation.
What are expected utilisation rates for entry level consultants? Been here 9 months and only done billable work for about 3 months of that. Bored out of my mind for the majority of my time here.
I love when staffing requests result in more and more BD offers with no billable hours. 🥳🥳
For those of you who are in-house, how did you get comfortable with needing to be more of a generalist? I know some in-house roles, especially at large companies, are specialized. However, even then it just seems like you’re expected to know about so many different areas (with far less support than at a firm). I’m tired of billable hours, but I really love (& feel more comfortable) being a specialist.
Started out hating Zoom depos. Kind of like them now. In hour two of a co-defendant’s examination, which is entirely irrelevant to my client, and I’ve clipped my nails, stretched fully, planned a hike for the weekend, ordered my home goods off Amazon, and it’s all billable time because I’m stuck on this thing.
Anyone else have to do mandatory “non-billable” hours? I just lateraled and this is blowing my mind. The ramp up has also been slow. Any tips?
County counsel experience - does anyone have insight into how working in a county counsel office might compare to a law firm? I know each one is probably different, but just wondering generally about work life balance, workload, etc. I’m looking to escape billable hours and pressure to find clients, and would like to work somewhere with real vacation days. Thanks!
what is the annual billable hours requirement for a manager/senior manager at KPMG? And is it enforced?
Hi, I have more than 5+ years of experience in Performance Testing and engineering. I do not want to continue in tech. Want to switch to management. So planning to do a PMP course. Really confused about the consequences after the course, whether I'll be able to successfully get a management role or not. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me? Any guidance is appreciated.
"URGENT: Status Match" - my subject line to make sure Virgin status matched me before my United status expired. Somehow it worked and they matched me within 24 hours. #justintime
I have a interview with a manager at Deloitte in the organization transformation practice. Tips for prepping?
After 3 rounds of interviews (total 4 inc recruiter screen) over the past 5 odd weeks, just got told by a T2 consulting firm that they doesn’t sponsor H1B visas which is frustrating because they were aware of my visa situation right at the start. Sigh 😢. Understand it happens but frustrating nonetheless given the time and effort invested.
How are ATKs benefits?
The problem with diversity is they focus on a quota rather than changing the culture of marginalized groups in the office. So often people speak over me, take credit for my ideas... and it's accepted.
Surely you mean ‘raise health with’. C’mon guys.
Anyone looking for Sr Copywriters? Open to moving but remote would be nice too. Open to anything really. Get me out.
Do you find it normal for a company to take a month to get back to you even after asking for your interview availability twice? I’ve already done two rounds of interviews.
Has anyone tried using a QR code for classroom sign out? Has it worked for you or just become a pain?
My dad tested positive for covid. We have ICICI Lombard from india insurance for him. I need to take him to hospital for further test as his fever is going up. Anyone had experienced this. How the hospital treat uninsured or people who have foreign insurance.
How safe it is to book tickets via KLM from US to india for the end of June. Pretty sure they are not getting bankrupt.
Looking to exit to MBB/tier 2 consulting. Do they/you take analysts 1-1.5 years out of undergrad? Will I have to start over or will I be considered an “experienced” BA/Associate?
Does anyone actually get complimentary upgrades due to United status? I just hit gold and so far it seems like a hoax.
Tis the season for mileage runs. Being new to constant travel, I’m not close enough to the next level. However.. share you’re craziest mileage run story! Living vicariously. Miles, cost, legs, time...
I’m looking for warm spring break destinations for the family. Caribbean and Central America seem to be the top choices. Anyone have a great Marriott experience with the family they want to recommend?
Happy Friday everyone. Just wanted to check if anyone else is in the same boat. Recent agile promotion here, everyone mentioned $5k bonus and I was told I was getting it. I haven’t seen it…am I the only one?
