What firm are you at and what are the maternity leave benefits? We only get about 3 months using parental leave and short term disability paid at 100%.

Go Deloitte !! EY is also 16 weeks (STD + mat leave) plus you get the two weeks prior to your due date if your baby comes on time :) you still accrue vacation during maternity and can add it on to your leave

PwCs is officially 14 weeks — 8 weeks STD (10 for c section) plus 6 weeks parental leave, paid 100%. I’ve heard rumors of there may be updates to our policy soon. We can also use our 4.5 weeks of vacation. I’m in CA and also can apply for partial-paid benefits from the state for another six weeks. And for some reason in CA I got four weeks before my due date off fully paid, but I think in other states PWC gives two weeks before due date My last mat leave I was off for six months (one month before and five months after), and all but the last month was fully paid (the last month was partially paid from the state). PwC also has a policy where you can opt-out of our annual performance review process for the performance year when the majority of your mat leave took place. You get to keep the same performance tier you got the previous year (which determines your bonus) and so you don’t have to worry about your utilization, etc. But the timing of how helpful that is depends heavily on what part of the year you’re out. Great if you’re out the beginning of the performance year so you can chill the rest of the year when you transition back. But if your mat leave is during the second half of the performance year, it doesn’t really help you when you get back (just helps you take it easy while you’re pregnant). Hope that makes sense

Deloitte. 6-8 weeks of short term disability paid at 100% (vag vs c section). 16 weeks family leave paid at 100%. Can add PTO on top of all that.

like

Deloitte's policy sounds awesome! We have 8 weeks maternity leave (short term disability paid at 100%), then 8 weeks "parental leave" for a total of 16 weeks, and then you can use PTO. Also, there is a policy that you are guaranteed to be able to "work local" for at least a year following your baby's birth.

like

Deloitte does sound awesome! KPMG is 12 weeks paid postpartum, plus paid std starting 4 weeks before your due date. (my baby came late, so it was 5 weeks paid). 6 months total job protected leave, you can use pto or unpaid leave for the balance.

uplifting

Slalom’s is sad. 8 weeks (STD topped off to 100% paid), after that you can take PTO or unpaid leave but get bumped to Cigna at 18 weeks. Fortunately some states are introducing paid leave benefits which adds to our time off, but the standard package is embarrassing

Wow Deloitte's maternity leave does sound great 👍

Deloitte’s sounds amazing and Accenture’s working local is great too!! Wish my firm would get with it to provide better benefits!

16 weeks paid (maternity +STD) can add additional 2 months unpaid via our program Time for You (can take 2 months off annually). Some come back at 80% .

SC1, I can't believe that!

ZS policy increases with tenure - do other firms do this as well? It really sucks at the <2 year mark: 0-23 months, 10w + PTO 24-35 months, 13w + PTO 36+ months, 16w + PTO All at 100% base salary

Booz Allen is 6 or 8 weeks (depending on delivery) STD - pd at 100% if you’ve been there a year I believe. Somewhat less if not. 2 weeks paid parental leave at 100%. You can take up to 24 weeks off total if you’ve been there a year, but only what I mentioned is paid. The rest is unpaid unless you’re using PTO for some of it.

PWC1 the policy on performance assessment is awesome! 6 months post delivery, I am still so tired. Can't work in same capacity as before. Hope Slalom realizes.

Advice to young lawyers. Read a book. I saw the thread about savings and many young lawyers (20s and 30s) don’t know how to open up a brokerage account or invest in their 401k. I know they don’t teach personal finance in school (though they should!), but my advice is that you should go to your local library and read a book about the subject. You have the skills necessary but you must invest in yourself. No one will look out for you.
