My wife’s grandma and my mom had the same maiden name so we decided to both change our last name to that.
That’s really cool!
We both kept our last names. For any future children, they will have her last name bc my family has been less than supportive (and it’s a cooler name!).
Nice. We both kept ours too - our kids kept their birth family's last name.
We kept our respective surnames, but have discussed our children having hyphenated names combing both. At that point we may change our own names so that they match our children.
Interesting idea. I've heard of it but never considered combining names in that way. I'm an only child so surname preservation is something I have voiced when discussing this question with my fiancé. We've decided we will either hyphenate or just keep our last names separate, at least to start out.
My husband took my surname.
Yes
Kept our surnames. Our children have hyphenated surnames.
Our surnames aren’t that complicated to spell and it gives them more practice writing. :)
We're doing what you're thinking of doing, first half of my name and second half of his name. It even sounds like a "normal" last name when combined. We has discusses it a couple times but didn't really get serious about it until we started on the track for adopting a few kids.
And what does the next generation do? Two people each with hyphenated names become what? Four last names? Morphing seems more practical even if it's outside the mainstream.
Without being so pie in the sky, can you elaborate on what is reasonable?
I’m a school teacher, so I cannot pass up the chance to be “Mrs.Wright.” 😂 I much prefer her last name to mine.
