What have you actually LIKED to receive from your company as new hire welcome gifts and/or swag? What was actually useful or exciting?

Stipend to set up remote work has been the best. I know that's not what you're asking, but I'd prefer that over swag.

like

A branded yeti cup - use it all the time!

This sounds awesome! I would love this as a gift! Plus one! lol

Patagucci vest

Giving someone an option would be cool. Or like a sustainable option. No one needs tiny note books with tiny pens, those go straight to the landfill. My new company is sending me a zip up vest… I wish they have another option bc I will not be wearing that 😂

like

I hear that! I have been thinking of trying to integrate experiences rather that physical items as well. Thanks for the insight!

like

A nice branded sweater to wear while at the office!

likefunny

Can never have too many quality travel mugs and durable water bottles!

Probably the coolest thing I’ve gotten that I loved was a branded cooler bag. Basically looks like a cross-body bag but it’s insulated like a travel cooler. Perfect to take food & drinks to the beach, picnic, or on long car rides. Company office was near the beach so everyone used them for beach trips.

like

I like branded hoodies, my hubby uses my branded yeti cup, also a big fan of the big 32 oz branded water bottles.

like

I love work hoodies as well! I wear them proudly even on the weekends haha.

My favorite was an amazon gift card, but I can see how this could be problematic.

likefunny

The essentials! I'd love to receive a planner/fountain pen with an engraving.

Really liked the branded hoodie, hand sanitizers and notepad.

like

Yeti travel mug, water bottle and good quality jackets, like “spyder”

Waterbottles are the swag item I actually use all the time, and past employer hoodies have gotten a lot of wear during covid when I rarely was leaving the house. Otherwise I agree with other posters that it’s a shame and wasteful to get swag you don’t want and won’t use, so some kind of option is nice (a swag store when you can pick the item you want?), or the option of a donation is really cool!

like

An engraved wooden spoon. I actually use it to cook!

like

Had a care package with chocolates & snacks– loved that too.

like

I do send “pick your own” snack and beverage boxes as the welcome gift, but I’d also like to send something company branded, even if they opt to donate, etc! Glad to hear that’s something you enjoy!

like

These are all amazing suggestions, thanks! I struggle trying to please the masses. For context, I currently send a “pick your own” snack/beverage box as a welcome gift, but I want to add some company branded items because there was a clear ask for it in our company. I just hate the idea of wasteful items or useless items. Sounds like some pick your own options may be a good route. Maybe I can set it up where you have the 5 options between 10 or so items. This is all very helpful- thanks all!! Keep ‘em coming.

like

Yeti cup and tshirt

A few notebooks and a branded wireless mouse, I use them all the time!

Good to know! I always struggle with whether I should include office items, because I’m some cases everyone’s home offices are already set. Keeping this in mind.

Allstate gave me a really really nice windbreaker jacket that I still have! It was super high quality and I love it! It was a nice gift!

(1) I recently interviewed for a senior auditor position at a company and hadn’t heard back from them so I followed up. The recruiter’s response was that I was still being considered for the position but the team had moved forward with other candidates that were better suited due to their experience. The recruiter also said that they enjoyed my interview but the team felt I needed a bit more work experience and that they would reach out if they would like to move forward with me.

I know this bowl seems to be all photos 😍 but serious question for all you hard-working, king-hours dog owners out there... do you ever feel guilty about how much you're working and leaving your pup at home alone? How do you get over that guilt? Do you use doggie daycare every day or just a few times a week? Do rely on a roommate or SO to help? I'm a single lady and would LOVE to get a pup this year but am fighting the guilty feelings, so any advice would be much appreciated!

I've been working for 3 years since graduation and the first 2 years I worked in aviation consultancy. Mostly doing data/BI analysis but my main title and job was airport planner. I've made a move to the data science team and have been working as a data scientist for just over a year now and I'm only earning £37k.
I want to make a jump to a higher paid data science role but I feel a bit insecure that 2/3yrs of my experience is not in data science.

New/pivoting into HR! 👋 Currently working as a TA Coord with a little entry level work in HR Ops prior to this. Is there a SHRM link, reliable test, or method of shadowing the various parts of HR that will provide a sample of the work, thinking, and day to day experience of each group? I didn’t go to school for HR and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to sample HR Ops. vs. TA vs. Comp vs. Benefits vs. Payroll, etc. I know work experience is the best barometer, but what can supplement this?
