I would love that, it would feel so empowering. In many ways, it would allow us to actually incorporate our classroom expeirence into how and what students learn. It's kind of crazy this isn't happening more already.

My district did that a few years back. I didn’t enjoy it because we weren’t trained to write/build curriculum. Some of the teachers enjoyed it, but we were constantly changing it and making improvements to it. We would never have been able to get our curriculum approved by the state, which was the reason we ultimately couldn’t keep it. We purchased a curriculum for this school year and I love it. It’s more complete and it flows better than what we created ourselves. I can still make it relatable for my students and make it rigorous though the questions and discussions that we have around topics. If you know how to write curriculum and you can get all the pieces in, more power to you.

I have done this! I helped start our high ability program. We were given days with a sub for our classroom to build our curriculum. That was 15 years ago. Every year, we revise the curriculum and update our units. It is a lot of work, but also amazing!
