Don’t worry about what you can’t control. Do your best at your job

You’ll be fine. It’ll suck if it happens and for a short while after. But you are more than just your job, your salary, your career.
I was laid off in 2009, I ended up in a better position. Didn’t feel like it right away and I was pretty down for awhile but in hindsight it all worked out.

Sorry to hear that Associate 1. Your feelings are valid. :( It’s easy for me to look back in hindsight and say it all turned out fine but I was a mess that day, and for many days after that.
Good luck with the job search. Utilize your network. Don’t let this define you or the rest of your career.
I was laid off in 2008 and again in 2014 , both times for economic reasons not related to my performance. I came back better both times and will again if it happens now. And you will too. Don't worry.
My biggest fear is that I’m at a great company and feel very lucky to work there. I think I’m peaking, career-wise, and worried if I get laid off I’ll never be able to find an equivalent again
Same 😩
my SO was laid off in april. she didn’t really like that job, but it was fine enough that she wasn’t compelled enough to pursue other options. the lay off forced her to. and she landed a new gig at the end of june, at a way cooler company, doing way more fulfilling work, making $40k more. if you do get laid off, it’s because some better is waiting for you.
I'm currently laid off. I'll be fine because I believe in myself and my abilities.
I got furloughed in early June not laid off. I considered leaving before but never had the balls to make the jump. In less than a month, I got an offer for 25k more than my current salary, negotiated 10k more. Great job and I’m taking it. Plenty of other options too in the works but I’ve had to turn down.

I was working at this great agency I really loved, made great work and got promoted to Creative Director - then covid came and they canceled all promotions and last month I got laid off.
To be honest, I’m doing fine and enjoy my free time 😃
I live with this fear daily. Lower pay than I should be earning plus high cost of living city means I’m almost paycheck to paycheck. Part of that is due to paying down debt to 0 right before covid hit.
Start reading Stoicism, Epititus etc.
I was laid off in '08 unemployed for 6 months, underemployed for another 6 or so. 80k of student loans with no income. No one was hiring and any job openings had 100s/1000s of applicants. It was some really dark times and I feel like I got lucky to make it back to where I am now.
I know that feeling. When I was laid off years back I was terrified. I ended up landing freelance and then a gig at a lower salary, but more than made up for it within three years. Hang in there, and know you are not alone. Lean on your network if you get laid off. It’s a good reminder to all of us, too, that we need to help and support each other. When folks reach out because they get laid off, reply to them, help them, even if only to listen and take them to lunch. Some day it will happen to all of us, and kindness and trying to help each other is how we all get through. I also agree with the person who suggested studying stoicism. I just finished a book called the Stoic Challenge that was pretty helpful.

If your portfolio of work is great, you’ll be just fine
Whenever I worry about this, I just remind myself to be grateful not to have dependents. If it happens, it happens. Take a few months off, travel the world, and wait for the right position to come along. Great things always do.
