I left one job after bring their 7 years. I was there for that long because it paid for my BBA. One year down in my MBA and just started at a new fortune 500 company. I don’t want to make the same mistake at this company by not hitting the ground running and trying to climb the corporate latter. I am wanting to and know that I can make a lot more than what I’m making. Any suggestions on what I can do to make grand strides?

Being a lawyer feels like school for the rest of your life...I don’t want to do this anymore.

Have a 60% increase in salary in hand L&E management side, would stay at current firm if they bump me up at least 40%. Do I ask employer (without disclosing other offer) that I’ll need them to match (or lowest 40% when negotiating) and if they don’t match then peace, or disclose offer right away and ask. Trying to avoid the awkward situation of leveraging them w the offer, them matching, and now employer knows I could pull the same stunt again in the future? Thoughts on how to handle this sitch?

What’s a book, podcast, tool or resource that changed your law practice?

Am I crazy? 6th year, inhouse my whole career, but getting interesting offers from firms. There's much more for me to do at current place, unless multiple more senior lawyers leave. Offer I'm entertaining rn: AMlaw 200 brings me in as my class year w/promotion to Sr. Assoc in Jan 2022. Got on really well w/partners and Sr. assoc I interviewed with (we went over time). Pay/benefits decent. 1800 billables. I'll learn a lot more, do stuff I've never done and 🤞be a more desirable inhouse candidate.

I’m a brand new law clerk/associate at a medium sized law firm. I pretty much exclusively do research right now and a little drafting. On many cases it seems we are simply on the wrong side of the law and don’t have a very good argument. Doing research, often times I am the one that breaks the “bad news.” One day I got lectured by a partner about coming up with “colorable arguments” even when there doesn’t seem to be one. I just feel awkward almost always giving negative prognoses. Any advice?
