Hello Everyone! Does anyone have a connection at Netflix ! I am an author/marketing associate and truly my dream job is to work on the team that creates/produces Drive to Survive. I am a huge F1 fan! However, I am willing to start where I can and work my way there! I was laid off due to Covid and just trying to get back into the field and industry I love.

If it comes to that point, I’ll be looking for a different career. Even if I’ve gotten the vaccine. It sounds silly, but I already give enough (too much) of myself and my personal information to my employer. I guess that’s my line in the sand. They can’t tell us we have to eat healthy, exercise, or drive slower in order to get hired and keep our jobs. Those expectations can only be encouraged, and should not be mandated - same with vaccines. All of those actions might keep us healthy, but they are choices.
This is really a non-issue. Legally employers can require vaccines and test that would pose a health risk to others. It’s already been through the court systems. Hospital workers are required to show proof of several vaccinations and updates yearly. I would not want a nurse or doctor in the cancer ward skipping their vaccinations.
We have all gone through the TB test and many FBI and BCI background checks in order to get hired. This is one more requirement meant to keep the people we teach safe. It does not open the door to your medical record, since you only have to show proof, like you would with a social security card or birth certificate. If you have a true medical condition that prevents getting the vaccine, you would be protected under ADA. Otherwise, it’s a choice. For some, the choice is not to teach in Public schools. However, there will be private institutions that won’t have the requirement and that will be an option.
As educators we have much bigger issues that need our focus and solidarity. I understand the desire for this to be personal choice, however, this decision effects others. When this disease starts to spread, it shuts down businesses, schools, and government agencies. It takes lives by the hundred thousands. We have to recognize that our rights stop where another’s begins.
This is an interesting thought and one I have been thinking through a lot lately. I don't believe they should, but whether or not they *can* require it is up in the air for me...
To teach, you are required to have a degree. You are required to be certified in your field. You are required to behave in a moral/ethical manner.
Every job has a set of requirements, and if you don't like the requirements, they don't say "Well that's OK. You don't have to do this." They say "OK, then get a different job that doesn't require it."
Teaching is unique in that they are *desperate* to keep us, but certain standards can still prevent a person from teaching...
Personally, the day a vaccine is required I'm out. It breaks my heart to say, as someone whose bachelors and masters degrees are both in the field of education, because I just love it so much. But my body belongs to me. My health is extremely important to me and I don't want other people making decisions about my wellbeing.
In MD for BA and on since 1990 Measles Blood Titer and Chest Cray ruling out TB.
I chose to be vaccinated but I don't think that it should be mandatory for everyone in order to keep your job that makes no sense.
I use to work in Public Health at a hospital. Being vaccinated was a job requirement. I do believe people have the right to make their own choice. If I didn't want to work there I would have chosen a different job. I don't understand what's the uproar about being vaccinated if you work as a public servant. Most jobs have their own requirements. If it's not for you there's nothing wrong with switching careers. What's the big deal?
I'm seeing enough conspiracy and anti-child safetly nonsense in these replies to make me wonder why some folks are in education to begin with. It's enough to lose a student but I can't imagine losing one because I was reckless enough to not be vaccinated, whether from COVID, measles, smallpox, polio or any number of diseases for which we should be trusting science.
As for the HIPPA nonsense, your vaccination card would be all they need.
As for regulations and the employer telling you what to do, it's obvious that some have never driven a school bus. Those of us who teach and also drive buses, whether routes or teams/groups, have to hold a CDL, have yearly physicals on file and be able to pass drug screenings randomly because of federal laws that supercede any state laws. And all of these things are kept on file.
Perhaps some respondents should reevaluate their career choices whether they are required to show proof of vaccination or not.
The CDC said to date, only .0016% of people have died after receiving a vaccination, and NONE have been linked to the vaccine. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html

It’s a personal choice. It’s not a professional issue. Requiring it is overreach.
Indiana, you are wrong on so many levels. First, none of the countries you mentioned are socialist. Socialism is a system where the government owns and controls all the means of production . A good example of socialism would be Venezuela or Cuba. Secondly, none of those countries have free speech. If you say the wrong thing you are jailed. For example, most of the countries you listed have laws prohibiting speech they deem hate speech. The government determines what gate speech is. In most of those countries speech against transgender/homosexual lifestyles is considered harmless speech—just as an example. Even if you are simply voicing a non-violent opinion that something is wrong, it is punishable by jail time. The list of what is hate speech is long and includes many things most of which would be permitted here and would not be considered hateful at all.
So if it is mandatory, what about the other vaccines ? Polio, TB..... I am pretty sure that we are all vaccinated against these diseases, but we need boosters shots for some of them. Did your school ever ask you about these vaccinations ? If not, why would they mandate the Covid vaccine? I never got a shot against measles or chicken pox ( they were not created when I was young), and I never got these two diseases. The outbreaks are sometimes important and I may be a carrier one day.
My point is that if the Covid vaccine is recommended, we enter into a spirale without end.
My school did ask me for my vaccination records when I started working there.
I don't think they should mandate vaccines...it's a choice...
I don’t have a problem with the vaccine being mandated. If it’s to keep myself and others safe, I don’t have an issue with it.
Indiana Elementary School 2, exactly! If I choose not to be vaccinated, that is my business and I don't want to be the guinea pig. There are risks when you don't take the shot, and there are risks when you do. No one has the right to tell me that I have to take certain risks. Saying that I am an idiot or selfish is very opinionated and inflammatory. I know this is a heated topic, and there isn't an easy answer, but all sides should be considered and respected.

Vaccine? It should start becoming pretty apparent to all this is a flu shot. More and more we are now told subsequent shots will be needed on a regular basis. It’s a misnomer.
Thank YOU IMS2. Misinformation seems to be rampant on this site. It’s embarrassing and very disturbing
simply put, this is an attack on our personal rights. I'm not surprised since they've already barged in and demanded we follow their mandates on things that are simply none of their business.
"For the greater good" is NOT a valid argument. Health issues are personal. period.
Many cannot be vaccinated due to health reasons and many have already suffered adverse effects from this vaccine and other vaccines. This is why the vaccine court of the usa has paid out billions of dollars.
Seriously, this about control over others. It is that simple.

I had no idea personal rights ended at your employers door.
Wow
Do an employer can ask anything of their employees? I mean, they have no rights, correct?
I hope you have no employees!
The Triangle shirt waist company is just one example of people who think like you.
If this or any vaccine were required, I would quit. That is definitely overreach. It is my choice, my business.

Lol. The CDC was on ABC today recommending it for teens even with the myocarditis cases popping up.
For all those teacher who keep saying the vaccine is a personal choice about their health - here is another perspective. The vaccine is not just about personal heath but a public health measure to keep your community safe and healthy. The vaccine will help end the Pandemic! If we truly want to safe lives and bring the Pandemic to an end and have our lives get back to more normal we all should be doing our part to end the Pandemic. The best and easiest way is to get vaccinated. As it stands, teachers need to prove they have had the MMR vaccine, or are immune, before being hired. Why? Because getting vaccinated saves lives and keeps our communities safe from disease. We now have a chance to keep our communities safe from a deadly disease again by getting the latest vaccine. If we saw the dead bodies piled up on the street from the Covid virus as they did during the Black Plague for bodies to be carted off to mass graves, maybe we wouldn't be so hesitant in getting the vaccine. I personally do not want to work along side colleagues who have not been vaccinated.
What? Shedding spike proteins ? What is your source for that statement. Gov of W Virgina says if you are refusing vaccine (with medical exceptions excluded) you are entering ‘death lottery’ ie people die from Covid
I have a doctors note. Nope, there would be a lawsuit.
A lawsuit you would probably lose. IF it ever becomes mandated, which would be a long way off, then you would have the choice to work for someone who doesn't mandated it.
It was mandated I have certain vaccines to attend college so I don't see the big deal. I'm also mandated not to smoke weed on my own time even in states where it is legal as I could be drug tested back at work. People getting their panties in a bunch act like we aren't already mandated to do all kinds of nonsense.
Why should we be mandated to take an "experimental" vaccine that may be harmful to us down the road?
I absolutely think this is wrong. Many don't understand my view on this vaccine. First, let me say that I chose to be vaccinated. I believe in the value of it and the science behind it. I did the vaccine with some nervousness though. However...I don't want to be in a profession or in a country that mandates a vaccine in order to work or to reside. I know this sounds contradictory. I do believe choice is the issue. I also believe that most teachers will choose to be vaccinated. They just should not HAVE to.

Are we forgetting that children are the most resilient to the virus? We lose 300 children every hour every day to hunger (world health organization). I wonder if you are as passionate about ending child hunger as you are about taking away others' rights? I don't have a problem with people who choose to get the vaccine or with those who don't. What I do have a problem with is those pushing their own agendas and trying to manipulate and guilt trip others into doing something that might not be right for them. MY body, My choice. Isn't that what the leftists preach???
Just don’t kill anyone else. My body, my choice- yes. This is a highly contagious virus!
Ppl on this forum crack me up. Liberty you say? Interesting take. Do your part as a member of your school, community and society at large.
These vaccines are not FDA approved. They are for emergency use. Agreeing to get a vaccine for covid is agreeing to be part of the trial. Mandating anything that has not gone thought all approval processes seems more dangerous then "for my health". In addition, I do not think requiring a vaccine for a 99.5% recoverable virus is a necessity.
If this becomes a mandate, I will not take part.
Income taxes used to be UN-constitutional...SCOTUS made that ruling more than once...then the 16th Amendment was ratified through a process of misleading promises and outright lies to the American public...in no time we were off to the races to raise, raise, raise income taxes...it will be the same with ANYTHING that the government takes control of. You surrender a single, inconsequential, liberty and you will absolutely lose more...there is no such thing as an inconsequential liberty, protect them ALL or face losing them ALL. Government is NOT the answer... a FREE people will rise to any occasion and solve any problem far better than an authoritarian government. That's my take.

Utah Middle School, I know somebody who lived under Pol Pot.
Not remotely well organized.
And she got polio due to his paranoia of western medicine, including vaccinations.
Several states are already passing laws to give freedom of conscience on this. I’m sorry for those of you who won’t have the option, but it can’t legally be done until the vaccine gets emergency approval. The law enabling emergency FDA approval, also clearly states people cannot be compelled to take it.
Not that anything like the law will stop the government or anything, but it buys us time at least.

No documentation of any vaccine is required in my state to gain employment. Why would covid vaccination be different?
