If you go to tech, you will have to think about TC as it’s difficult to get a big jump in base after a point. E.g. Im moving for 12% increase in base but a 50% increase in total comp. I would look for at a 20% increase in base + bonus and then a 30%+ increase in total comp.
Depending on where you go into industry I would think hard on what future raises would be. Unless you do tech with a fair amount of RSUs and the refreshers most industry jobs don’t give out more than 3-5% raises. I’ve consistently have gotten over 10% raises in consulting (besides covid which was made up for with 31% this past year) so do some math and say if I leave now would I have surpassed that in 1-2 years if I had stayed. I truly would jump if I knew I wouldn’t make that comp in less than 3 years if I had stayed. That usually means I have to get a TC increase of 30%+.
