If my income only tracked inflation from now until retirement I would be OK with it. Obviously I wouldn't mind making more but I've interviewed for positions that paid significantly more and turned then down because I would lose my work/life balance. I think I may have gotten as high as I can get without sacrificing my whole life to my job and never seeing my kids or disconnecting from work. So this salary works just fine.

I’ve past the point where I need to work for money so it both doesn’t matter but at the same time as much as I can get because there is just no upper limit to a mixture of insecurity with a touch of greed

If it was guaranteed, adjusted for true inflation, and I planned to retire at 60: $120k. I make $200k, but spend $50k per year. So $100-120k gives me financial security, peace of mind, and the ability to save without stress for a retirement of $80k, which is my goal. Now that number drastically changes if I plan to retire early (current goal is to be financially independent by 46) and is dependent on my family situation (currently single, but would like to get married and have kids). I feel like the better question is, if you were guaranteed an income for life, what would that need to be for you to be happy. Or I like to think a lot about what amount of lottery winnings would make me comfortable to completely exit the workforce and not feel the need to add to it with my salary.

$150k inflation adjusted

1 billion

I’m at 135k and it’s objectively more than I need, so could just stay here, inflation-adjusted to ASM1’s point

Looking for some direction. Just finished paying off my law school debt. I'm 29 years old. $40k in taxable brokerage account, $15k emergency fund (3.5 months), $20k in 401k. In September I'm starting a new job that will pay me $200k which doubles my current salary. Will max my HSA, 401k etc. But should I be making Roth 401k contributions in this tax bracket?

First time leaving firms - not sure what to do with my 401k. Should I keep it as it is, transfer to an IRA, or a Roth IRA. If it is the latter, I know Roth IRA has a 6k limit but my 401k has ~17k. Will it exceed the limit and if so, what should I do? 22 here, not too familiar with the process. Thanks!
