Whatever the goal is. Pure vanity metrics? Sure.
Or do likes equate to acquisition which equates to revenue. Sure, then go for the likes, but evaluate that likes to acquisition to revenue ratio at outset, throughout the campaign, ensure you're achieving those goals.
It almost doesn't matter what the metrics are. It just comes down to what number you're tasked with achieving, and whether you're hitting it.
Personally, I like that task to be revenue. At the end of the day I can put a big fat revenue number to my fees. It makes retention nice and easy, and provides leverage in the relationship.

The question of a lifetime, but it varies by company. Consistency of engagement is what I strive for, growth is what I set a goal for. The so much about the big picture that simple metrics just don't tell. But, it's just one part of the puzzle.
