Agree with G1. Or if they’re persistent (have only had this happen once) you can refer them but in the form you have the option to say “I don’t know this person” which basically makes the referral null.

Just tell them you are too new and to check back in a few months. Then when they check back....tell them our requirements. That usually scares people away
You can decline those chats, or have them and just say unfortunately I am not able to refer you unless I have a close working relationship with you. Depends on how in touch you want to stay with certain people. Also, how would you prefer someone addressed this with you?
Thank you for your suggestion.I usually avoid them but at times there are folks who have genuine questions and no referral requests. I would be open to helping them in understanding the role, skillset and the culture at google but giving a referral based on one conversation seems not so genuine to me. I wouldn’t ask for a referral like this in the first place. During my recruitment I said I don’t have any referrals even though I knew a few people, but they had never worked with me personally so I felt uncomfortable to ask for a referral.
