No more than 30% is the general rule of thumb. But recognize that changes depending on salary, location and other financial obligations you may be responsible for

I live in The Netherlands and spend 25% of my net salary on rent.
I live in Minneapolis and spend ~12% of gross on rent. 80k salary and spending 700/month on rent.
