What is an appropriate amount of time at a new firm before taking a week of vacation?

i left deloitte risk advisory due to personal reasons in sep 2021 (time off since july 2021) as the work got a bit much and my situation at home was complex.

i applied for a snr consultant role in consulting (strategy & ops, indus. redesign & innov.) and saw my app. got shortlisted. this role looks more suited for me and im super interested in it, more so than my prev. exp at D but you never know haha. whats the process like/how likely will i progress?

How much should I charge a friend to watch 4 dogs at their home over Christmas weekend (2 nights)? The dogs don't have any special needs or medications. I've dog sat for other people in the past but always for free. I also have had dogs of my own for most of my life. I want to start charging people for my services but also want to be reasonable since this is a friend and don't plan to charge a holiday fee. We live in St. Louis. Would $40 per day/night be reasonable?

Should I move to Amazon? Currently in-house with a mid-sized tech startup in LA; 7 YOE, 200k TC. While my management definitely has flaws, my bosses are kind people, I learn from them, and I have good WLB (45-ish hours a week, 3-ish weeks of vacation, great flexibility and autonomy with these things). How is RSM PTO? Understand it’s unlimited, which limits more than accrued, but any insight on what you like/dislike?

How do your firms do payroll? This is like the 5th time in 26 months that paychecks weren’t timely deposited. Allegedly, the boss did everything right and this is something in the payroll company. But his stuff is getting crazy and everyone is out on PTO, I’m kinda like: meet minimum ethical obligations and no more. Once or twice, I understand. But this is becoming regular.

Supervisor said I couldn’t have week off for vacation this summer bc another coworker of higher seniority asked off the same week and two people can’t go on vacation at the same time because of staffing. But this coworker that asked off works different shift than me? He works 1st shift I work second. We have a total of 8 workers and no more than 4 work a day. can easily be covered. This has never been a problem until this year (we got a new supervisor). we’re used to being short staffed anyway

The fact that I received an email on a Sunday from my senior manager asking me to not take PTO that I've earned and reserved MONTHS ago because of poor planning on his part has officially given me the push to start looking for another job. Thoughts on CAIA? Difficulty, hours studied, study tips, overall experiences, etc.? I’ll be sitting for Level 1 in September. Currently work in the fund of funds space - moving over to my firm’s hedge fund research team soon so CAIA seemed like a perfect way to get knowledge in the area beforehand. I’m almost one year out of undergrad (econ background) so a lot of the CAIA content is new to me

Tip for anyone taking the CAIA exam, get UpperMark. Was using willey and was abt 1/2 complete and borrowed a friends test bank … night and day much harder and honestly was more like what I expected
