Decision - I was out the door of my nationwide ins dfense firm. Was going to top local firm with a lot more clout where everything would be private pay and I’d be more on bigger exposure cases. However, my firm outmatched the new firm, made a much better bonus structure, and said I could do more work with their complex bus lit group. I’d still likely do about 50 percent ins defense but I really like the partners I work for, and I handle own cases/take depos, and get autonomy. Am I right to stay?

Any Slack SEs here? I’m in conversation with a Slack recruiter for an SE role. Curious how competitive the market is with Microsoft basically offering MS Teams for free and the pandemic starting to wind down. I see most cool startups have Slack and bigger enterprises have been getting swooped up by MS Teams because of cheaper pricing and not needing to buy Zoom. I personally like Slack more but how are current market conditions and how are y’all feeling? Slack Salesforce

Hi! Question. How does your company handle the communication between customers and solution engineers during integration? Do you use Slack, Jira, etc? We are using Slack but some customers won’t use Slack so then it’s bleeding over to other forms of communication that are less ideal. I’m starting to wonder if we would be better off doing Jira tickets. 🙃

Hello! I am a Sales Engineer position with sales exp in the manufacturing sector and recently relocated to Seattle. I have been looking for a position and been interviewing with a few different companies. I have had yoe: 6 (4 of which were in sales). I was hoping to get some input on what fair compensation would be. The range of salaries I have seen so far is 85-95k base + 30-80k commission (total: 120-180k). Pay progression from SE to management? Was wondering what a typical SE manager makes because it’s hard to find.
Hey all, I’m a software engineer of about 2.5 years now and I really want to make a career transition to Sales Engineers. I was recently given the opportunity to apply as Solution Engineer with a path to transition into a Sales Engineer at a nice company, but they decided to not move forward with my application after I applied. I am wondering what I can do to break through into Sales and make the transition :)

If you have relevant experience in industry that will allow you to be an effective SE, at a minimum ask for what you’d make in your market. For example, if you’re a CPA looking to make the hop to an accounting software as an SE and You currently make $120k, you should make at least that. Starting SE salaries for people with relevant experience is often 120-140k OTE. If you truly have no work experience or relevant experience, then the ranges from other posts are reasonable.
Hmm, maybe 90-120k depending on city
May be a bit less than this at 70-90k? Or am I way off?
The lowest base we pay is just under $80k, with an OTE of just under $100k. This is in our lowest COL areas, for our least experienced SEs. This is for software sales (fintech), and does not include our significant equity grants.
That said, we need at least some relevant experience, even if it isn't SE experience. I hired 2 software engineers to be SEs this year, and they're doing great after about 6 months of training!
SEM1 still hiring? 😩
5 years of work experience prior to becoming SE.
Y1 as SE - 90K base
Y2, $100K base, 125K OTE
Feels p low…?
Aim for around 90k TC if you have 0 YOE.
