I am a senior ETL developer and I make 130K cad. I want to increase my income. In most companies I see that they pay the same for senior data engineers or data architects. What are the companies or roles should I target in order to raise my income? (PS - I am not interested in non technical or consulting roles)
Is it better to be a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a big pond? Just got recruited with promotion/pay bump for a bigger firm but I’m in a great spot with my current firm. Suggestions?
Throwback to when I finally got the courage to ask for a pay raise and was told it was irrational😊
Thinking of moving from NY to Austin after bschool (next couple years) to work and raise family. Prefer to stay in consulting or tech industry. Is it a good option?
I’m curious what the opinions are on the process they have seen or used to get promoted. I’ve never had it happen in my career this way but in my mind, your work speaks for itself, you advocate for yourself, ask for a promotion when it’s not been offered. Then you get promoted after you make your case if you do qualify. The way I’ve seen it (& a reason I’m leaving my current company) is where they only promote people when they’ve threatened to leave or received a different offer. Thoughts?
I need to get a pulse check on my sanity... i live in Michigan, and sports gambling has become legal in the past year. Now every other commercial is about sports gambling, sports announcers are making in game advertisements, I get hit with social media ads, so on and so forth. I’m not against sports gambling, but the constant promotion seems like “corporate America” is taking advantage of addictive human tendencies, and contributing to the perpetuation of wealth inequality in America.. am I nuts
My one year at first out of college job is coming up, despite conditions - should I still ask for a raise and a formal virtual performance review. (It is a small firm and they will avoid it if I don’t bring it up). The firm has been making the same if not more profits than they usually would. Thanks!
How do you decide between staying on an account where you like the people, there's a good chance of promotion, but the work is boring (con'd)
After getting promoted in Feb 2020 (lol fml) I designed and implemented a significant piece of data infrastructure that is beyond what’s expected of someone at my level. In 2021, I was not recognized for this accomplishment and a guy who knows nothing about the technology was promoted over me. It’s been a year since his promotion & the wheels are starting to come off: others are becoming increasingly aware of his ineptitude. What’s the best way to subtly pour gasoline on this fire?
We have our nanny a 10% pay raise in September to mark her two year anniversary with us (amounted to something like $2.50 more per hour). We were expecting (I was seven months pregnant at the time) and I told her it was (1) annual raise but (2) would also cover the fact that she’d be taking care of another baby. This morning she asks us whether we can talk about her raise now that she’ll be watching an extra kid. I awkwardly was like “well that’s what the prior raise covers” and she (contd)
When is the best time to ask for a raise?
Planning to move to industry from consulting...what pay raise / cut (%), should I expect if planning to be in same city where I am now?
Raise your hands 🙋♂️🙋♀️ if you travel to a place with no place to stay bookedin advance. you are too adventurous and just figure out whe.ln you get there
Glory to God. After a long battle of advocating for my own career advancement while being under a team who intentionally did not support my advancement/career growth, I finally***** got promoted. With a 10% raise. It was a battle but I stayed faithful to Gods word and sought the kingdom first. Again. ALL. Glory. To. God. 🙌🏽🙌🏽 1 Peter 5:6 God will exalt you in due time if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand...
Is a breakaway from Tech consulting to economic development possible? What are your stories or stories you’ve heard? Thanks for all advice/opinion. 2 years in after college with recent promotion
Is there any relation between the Feedback cycle deadline of 27 Jan and hike/promotion letter? Any idea or guesses
I have an offer from maxlinear, they are giving me almost 90% raise from my current CTC but the hr has taken almost a month to process the letter and also I have had rude conversations from her side. The technical manner knows about it all. I am not able to decide that whether this kind of incident will affect my work environment or not. Should I join maxlinear or not.
I've been working for going on 2.5 years now in adtech on a very well regarded team at a Top 3 media holding group, and have only had 1 raise due to company promotion freezes during covid. While I started this job right out of college, I'm finding myself continually frustrated at my pay....$60k in NYC. Can someone tell me if I'm being crazy or if I should really be hitting the job market, like, yesterday?
McKinsey Digital Labs or SC at a Big 4?
Gun to your head, which B4’s tax practice (non-specialty) is the worst in the Northeast?
What is the average salary for a CD/GCD position in NYC at a large agency? I’ve been at a big shop for a while and looking to move...
My students can't read an analog clock or write in cursive. Is it worth it to teach these basic skills to them?
Thoughts on Riveron? My SO is interviewing there but heard they did a substantial furlough/layoff earlier this year. Seems like things might be better since they just announced a new acquisition in the past week?
@Deloitte/Pwc folks: Do you need to work a certain amount of time at the firm before being eligible for parental leave?
Uber driver says I most be a very important person, just because I travel to work every week. And all I have to say is God bless his soul.
Why is PwC’s 401k match so bad? The firm only matches a fraction of the 6% of your salary? Cmon. I thought 100% of 6% was the industry standard at this point
How's the work life balance and company culture in BMC Software and Informatica, Bangalore? If I had to choose between the two for a Technical Writing role, which one would you suggest?
@MBB folks: Engagement manager at OW (US) with no MBA. I am considering shifting to MBB and moving to SoCal (ideally LA). Could a move like that work or need an MBA?
Might be switching agencies before the holidays. Already have flights to take those 6 weekdays off. How do I️ deal with bringing that up in the case that they don’t offer that same time off?
How long after completing your MBA do you have to work at a company that paid for your MBA?
Am interviewing for a director, product role at a SaaS unicorn fintech. Currently a principal/associate partner in a boutique strategy firm, have 16 years of total work experience. Would you know if I am interviewing at the right level? (Still learning how the levels in a product organization match against consulting levels). Any pointers?
A Facebook recruiter reached out for Strategist position. Any thoughts on company life and benefits from existing/previous employees?
Hey ladies. Can we take a second to talk about friendship? As a working mother of two that works from home, I’m finding it hard to making friends or maintaining friendships. I’m the only one in my friend groups with kids and I feel left out and alone a lot of the time. Like I’ve been downgraded as a friend because I’m not as available. How have you built your tribe of support and friendship as an adult? Can anyone relate?
Had to cancel my travel plan because of H1B application. Already booked tix to fly out of the country and feel so stupid now
