What is CBS known for? It’s ranked relatively low but still harder to get into?

Sure seems to be the most controversial of the M7s...

Historically, CBS was known for focusing on the financial sector. hasn't really been true for a decade or two, for various reasons (think it now places more students in consulting than i-banking most years), but still one of the top places to be if you want to break into banking. Beyond that, I'd argue it's one of the better schools for tech, especially for those who don't want to move to the west coast. NYC also creates an unique prospect, appealing to some but not others (de gustibus non disputandum...).

Overall, though, best to think about it as much like the other M7s: really good, not easy to get into, with some advantages and disadvantages on the margins compared to its peers but, on the balance, able to send you most places l.

Sure. not certain I would go so far as to say the school specializes in it, but it seems to be a growing focus there. if you are thinking start-up at some point, the network is well set for supportive financing. don't underestimate geography either; outside of the valley, NYC probably has one of the most diverse and distinctive tech ecosystems.

The recruitment #s seem to bear this out. at the end of the day, getting into tech from any M7 should be attainable, but how many would you say are better placed for the industry? GSB and Haas for location, sure; Sloan if you buy that the culture translates (not sure I do for the same reason I don't see CBS or Wharton as finance schools anymore, but it's a valid view); if you wanted to say HBS for the name brand, fine. beyond that, CBS seems to be up there.

You should keep it moving

Finance I guess. Also the ability to stay in NYC and still get an M7 MBA

Disagree. I’d argue prestige is one of the few things this school actually has going for it.

I’m burnt out from trying to drive creative solutions for my team and clients. All everyone seems to wants is simple block & tackle tactics that don’t have deeper strategic meat to them. The briefs I read are constantly off strategy and there’s honestly seems to be a lack of common sense (e.g., don’t kick off a tactic the client doesn’t know about).

It sucks even more because pharma is already highly regulated and restrictive with how creative you can be. I just feel so spent and uninspired.

I’m new to Canada and currently working as a BA for the same company I worked for, in India. However, the workload is a lot after I moved here and the pay scale is comparatively low. I started job search and currently negotiating salary with an early stage startup for PM position. Problem is, they’re very keen on comparing my current salary and fixing my compensation rather than fixing it based on my performance in interviews and their budget. Is this normal practice here in Canada?

Looking for input on how to handle a direct leader that is hot &cold. 1 yr ago my leader promoted me & has indicated she wants to mentor me to take her role when she retires (director).
