From my extensive research of ~20 minutes of hearing about it second hand, I heard a lot of students already have friends/communities in NYC, so it’s not as tight knit as other schools
When I heard that, I stopped considering CBS lol

Not true at all! I found quite the opposite - most people invested heavily in CBS and ditched their “real friends” for 2 years.
Source: me, alum, most of my friends are New Yorkers

I’ve heard it’s kind of non-existent and a bit awkward lol. Source: my sister teaches there

I was teasing! And I don’t agree with her assessment haha - I had a great experience and there is most definitely a strong culture!

It's obviously going to vary from person to person. From what I've seen & heard, most of the fears are overblown; CBS students do go out of their way to build cohesion and a group culture. But new York city is there, and some folks will use that as an outlet; the reality is you don't have geography or institutional factors forcing cohesion the way you would at, say, Tuck/HBS/Kellogg. Ultimately comes down to your impressions, what you prioritize, and how you choose to spend your time during the MBA experience-wherever you go, ultimately you decide how much you lean into the culture aspects.
Have heard nothing but great things about the culture from the 20+ current students / alumni I’ve chatted with. CBS (and Wharton funnily enough) students also tended to be the most helpful and authentic of the people I networked with. Obvs small sample size but nothing so far that has thrown up any red flags.

I got into CBS but turned it down for another school because I felt the culture was better there. I could definitely tell the difference from the virtual admit weekends
