What is everyone doing to source and recruit new talent? Any out of the box ideas you’d be willing to share? My company is in a niche market to begin with and our talent pool is slim. I’d love to hear what you all are doing. Thanks in advande!!

October is NDEAM- source new talent by partnering with US Veterans Affairs, state workforce and local workforce boards, disability employment agencies, minority professional associations, minority college internships and career day, — I could go on. The problem with sourcing is continuously seeking the perfect, white, unicorn candidate. There are tons of job seekers. Follow EEOC AI guidance- review company demographics, create a DEI hiring strategy, train for unconscious bias in hiring, put pay equity practices in place— diversify your sourcing — and successful recruitment will follow.

Look around your company- ask the demographic- I feel confident less than 15% are black, Hispanic, Asian, and disabled. The number of white employees- are likely to be 85% and above. In management, less than 2% black, Hispanic, Asian, and disabled. So yea, hire less white— you already have that demographic over represented. I’m the HR leader, with a courageous voice to tell you the truth about the challenge of your sourcing problem. If you want an HR leader, who is to shy or uninformed to address the issue, that’s ok too. Continue doing what you have always done; allowing an HR leader to hold a seat, taking a large salary, not using available data to storyboard, and actually solve the problem.
There are way too many Consultants, HR leaders, managers, who don’t want to do the analysis, refuse the research, change their practices to be inclusive, and continue to overlook the elephant in their boardroom.

Referrals and educating hiring managers of upskilling and transferable skills

Referrals are key so we are trying to drive for that more. We've also upped our LinkedIn outreach because there's lots of people that aren't necessarily looking but are ok to be passively approached. Trying not to go for recruiters at the moment

I’m almost done building the website for my social media agency. I’ll be doing B2B social media management. I’m stuck on my Portfolio page. For those who have launched their own agency, if I don’t have clients yet should I just create demo mock-ups of social media graphics or should I take on a few free clients (only creating 9 social media graphics for them) so i can post them on my portfolio page? Hope that makes sense

Looking for some advice: I am extremely unhappy in my current role (literally just had a breakdown and cried for a good 30 minutes) and I want to leave. I’ve tried to switch groups internally to try something different but always receive pushback from my leadership. I haven’t been able to find a role externally yet and I’m not 100% sure what I really want to do for work. Any advice at all? I’m really stuck and not sure what to do.

My current role is likely being eliminated, so I’ve had to think about what I’d like to do for the first time in a while. I would be fine staying in an HR/TA role, However, I have started thinking about looking into roles with consulting firms. My forte is not in the technical realm, so my question is, when firms State they offer Human Capital services, are they mostly doing just HRIS implementation, or is there more to it from a strategy/development perspective?

Advice- My team were all given a raise in March except me. I brought it up to my manager who recently started. First reaction was I am still new and a raise wasn’t warranted. I told him 2 other recruiters on my team started when I did. He said he would need to look into it. Today he told me 3 of my HM’s don’t feel supported (despite having the 2nd most hires) and I could either resign or go on a PIP. I’m the only minority on my team have double the req load and supporting the most dept.

Has anyone ever had enough of HR and just wanted to do something else? I got sick of the hypocrisy between what HQ publicly says and what they actually do. I switched to consulting, I really miss helping people find and grow in great jobs but I was done being the scapegoat for people not getting their promotions or increments or internal movements.

How do you guys, especially the senior ones, handle this?

(This isn't about my current employer, who has proved to be quite ethical actually)
