Good learning experience
Has ‘a good learning experience’ actually ever been that or is it always a mind numbing, frustrating experience
Hey everyone,
Thanks for working with one another to come to a reasonable conclusion on this. The synergies we’re leveraging off each other is the kind of thing we’re looking for here at the firm.
Perhaps it would be best if we all got together for a brief pow wow to discuss where things stand when it comes to getting a master list of accounting jargon compiled and whether we need to circle back with anyone to resolve any open items/questions.
Let me know what time works best for everyone and I’ll pencil us in for a 15 minute block of time in the conference room.
Thanks again for all your hard work on this! We’re so close to the finish line on this one, so let’s give one final push to get there!
Last year I was reading emails like this, this year I am typing emails like this—-almost word for word. Especially if we’re close to clearing the last of an EQR’s comments.
Is this some strange rite of passage to make manager?
“Can I drive?” when talking about control of the damn mouse
I had another associate so this to me all the time and it made me want to murder them. Mostly because they would say it after already taking the mouse. As if breathing, “can I drive” into my ear was going to make me more comfortable with the whole takeover.
When I see “Hi (my name)” in a Skype message from a senior manager. My heart drops every time
I always think "so you're bragging that you're doing a higher level job but you're not getting adequate compensation to do so? Good for you"
Are you busy right now?
I ask this, too. Like EY20, I don’t want to throw assignments out especially if I don’t have that resources time that week.
“Let’s circle back” NO
“Hi, who just joined?” ITS A GIVEN
“Hey X, how are you” GET TO THE POINT
Ohhhh “circle back” is the worst!
“Low hanging fruit”
“Let’s connect offline”
Perspective... so over used. From an accounting perspective... blah blah blah
How is this not the # 1 post. Yes, we get it, business class told everyone to say this and make hand motions while talking because it holds attention. That does not mean every interaction is a TED talk.
1. living the dream
2. Good, you?
3. Have a good weekend
4. Why
5. Living the dream
I, utterly, despise ‘living the dream’
Have you checked prior year?
Mine is “hey ****, could you come here for a sec?"
I always cringed when my old coworker would start Hey ***. Just ask me what you want/need
“Wanna catch up?” No leave me alone
100% agree with KPMG3 and PWC2.
To anyone who pings “Hi [insert name], how are you?” to a subordinate and then follows up with an eerie silence, STOP IT.
You’re not being polite... you’re wasting time and also making us sh*t our pants.
Thanks.
I can live with the ‘hey so n so’ but when you add the ‘how are you’ type of pleasantry, I lose it. Like hey, we don’t talk to each other on messenger so can we get to the point because I know you don’t actually care how I’m doing.
“Drill down”, “best practices”, “opportunity”, “reach out”, “touch base”, ending an email with “regards”....
It’s like when you keep saying a word over and over until it starts to sound weird.
What does anything even mean anymore?
Help.
I think you once worked for me.
Regards
Great learning opportunity
