What is everyone's target "end game"? Partner? Controller? Own practice?

GT 1- I worked part-time at BDO when my kids were little. I’m now at Deloitte and working 100% although I might cut it back to 80%. Before I was hired I mentioned that I might want to cut back a little. I’m just so tired of having no life for 4+ months out of the year. There’s a manager in our group that’s 75% and a senior manager who is part-time as well. You can find part-time, not sure how common it is. I think it’s easier to do in tax. I started out in audit and tried part-time back in the 90s and it just didn’t work, but then again I was only a senior

I’m there! Partner at a mid sized firm for over 24yrs. Good comp top to bottom, good work life balance. I’ve developed a great client base and love what I do. Even more than helping my clients I love to help our staff achieve their goals, both personal and professional. Could have retired years ago but I’m only 57 and I love helping clients staff and community. I will step down and retire in about 8 more years but not because it’s my goal, just the right thing to do for the younger partners at my firm. The key is finding a firm that’s pays for performance and results rather than pushing hours. If you’re good at what you do and are not happy, then why are you there and what is your plan to make it better. Life is too short to waste much time at a job you don’t love.

Work here until I don’t want to anymore. Then figure out what I want to do next, and do that.

Become a high school chemistry teacher, slowly find out I can’t pay my bills, buy an RV with one of my students, start making millions, get involved with the cartel, then wake up and become partner.

A beach somewhere outside of cell range with a cold beer in my hand and my wife and kids around me

Moving to Europe where the work days are only 7 hours and they take a month off in the summer

A six figure something with regular 40 hour weeks.

Go back to school, get a PhD, become a professor. Actually starting that dream this fall!
