What is a fair salary for a 3rd year PI attorney at a boutique law firm? I went to a T-14, 1 year PI experience, 1 year clerkship, 1 year other.

I’ve been thinking about getting an MBA, but don’t really see the financial return. Paying $120k+ for two years and not working. If you got an MBA, did you see the value in salary or other benefits?

Does salary negotiation happens during internal transfer? If someone has experienced it can you tell a little about it. What is the hike that can be expected?

At what comp is a single person in the US basically set for life as long as they don’t get fired? To me anything over 200k and you have enough to live a fantastic life and don’t really even need more.

I did it everyone. Accepted a new job this past week. Salary is 30% higher and if you factor in bonuses between PA and new job, in total it would by like 45% higher than staying at EY. Weird feeling knowing I don’t have a busy season coming up.

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. 6th year associate at a small 6 attorney PI/med-mal firm in the Northeast OH. Settled about $1.4M total on the year, fees are about 5x my total compensation. Largely 1-manned these cases, use very little overhead beyond my assistant who I share with a partner. Feeling self-conscious, am I doing alright here??

What book or content do you wish existed for small firms or solos?

I left my old firm and started my own firm in September. I have already started to get client referrals and so far I am working from my home only - because it’s COVID time and people know Zoom now. I do estate planning and elder law, which lends itself to meeting clients at their locations when needed. I had a client drop off documents I need to review at my house this week and this was fine with the client. Do any attorneys here open their own home to clients ever for meetings?

I’m close to making partner, but need to add about $150k ish to my book to really push me over the hump. I have a strong book already but feel for some reason my momentum has stalled over the last 6 months or so. What do you all do that you find really helps build your book, in addition to networking?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I know where everything is on Westlaw and now I need to relearn. Apparently Westlaw will not budge on price and would rather just see a client leave than work with them. Super annoying. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?
