Has anyone here transitioned from an engineering role into consulting without first getting a MBA? How was your experience?

I’m an engineering consultant (>2YOE) in a very niche specialisation and I’m thinking of transitioning into consulting. In my current role, the work is really good but $ is not justified (once you hit that >2-4 YOE) compared to effort (hours+constant learning) you have to put in, liabilities, etc.
