What is interesting is I got into this business to "help" people and work with "people". But in general, investment clients are pains in the ass

Same here. Came into this business to help people and I have found out most people don't think they need it, don't want it or are too stupid to seek it.

some of the non-investment stuff is actually kind of fun to strategize (estate planning, income planning, etc.).

It's funny, I actually like marketing. Coming up with schemes to get exposure to new clients. And I really like managing investments. But I don't like closing, and I don't like having to come up with something stupid to say to my clients every quarter. I guess I will always be an accountant at heart. I just don't know that I will ever truly be able to get away from client management. I would need to hit a critical mass that would allow me to hire someone for that. I have thought about bringing on either a partner or employee to handle all the client management/planning, but my biggest concern is that I would get too far away from the clients and risk losing them to the "planner" if they ever jumped ship. But that's something to worry about down the road.I would love to run a mutual fund, but not sure if that is in the cards.

I got into this business to punish people, and I get to do that often. So I guess I like interacting with my "clients"?

The longer I'm in this gig 25+ years you appreciate clients as people - not just numbers, then again, firms don't pay us for being charity minded - nice to people. Wish I had enough business to sell out or just hang it up.

HELP ASAP pls!! I negotiated an offer as I’ll be moving out and saving money living at home but she told me she’d get back to me on the number. I think what I asked for was reasonable with the moving and all but what if she says no. I still really want this job even if it’s the lower salary. It seems many people just say no bc they think they’re worth more but I just want to take this job I hate my current one.

Question regarding traditional vs Roth 401k decision. I joined a new firm and they allow for Roth 401k and Mega back door Roth contribution. I’m 26 years old with a salary of 135k + bonus and have a traditional IRA (previous 401k) and a Roth IRA that are similar worth (50k each) I’m trying to decide how I should go about my new 401k with my new firm. Should I go with traditional 401k for the tax relief and after-tax back door to my Roth IRA? Thoughts, suggestions please. TIA

Hoping to get some thoughts on career path? I left an agency about 1.5 years ago (content manager and prev social) to go in house (copywriter). Long story short, agency wants to offer me a senior director role. However, this isn't client facing and would be marketing for the agency itself. I left to focus on writing. I love the company where I'm at now. The agency is small compared to my current company, but the title could be helpful later. Thoughts?
