Same here. Came into this business to help people and I have found out most people don't think they need it, don't want it or are too stupid to seek it.
some of the non-investment stuff is actually kind of fun to strategize (estate planning, income planning, etc.).
It's funny, I actually like marketing. Coming up with schemes to get exposure to new clients. And I really like managing investments. But I don't like closing, and I don't like having to come up with something stupid to say to my clients every quarter. I guess I will always be an accountant at heart. I just don't know that I will ever truly be able to get away from client management. I would need to hit a critical mass that would allow me to hire someone for that. I have thought about bringing on either a partner or employee to handle all the client management/planning, but my biggest concern is that I would get too far away from the clients and risk losing them to the "planner" if they ever jumped ship. But that's something to worry about down the road.I would love to run a mutual fund, but not sure if that is in the cards.
I got into this business to punish people, and I get to do that often. So I guess I like interacting with my "clients"?
I'm buying
The longer I'm in this gig 25+ years you appreciate clients as people - not just numbers, then again, firms don't pay us for being charity minded - nice to people. Wish I had enough business to sell out or just hang it up.
