What is it about clients that obligates them to go on vacation as we’re preparing to close on a deal (or they decide to leave the country the morning of closing)? Is it something in the water?

Are you buyer’s counsel on the deal I closed this afternoon? 🙃 all jokes aside, following because I want to know the answer to this, too!

Omg this. I've been killing myself to get a deal closed by 9/30, and yesterday the borrower was like, "let's push to 10/13 because I'm out of town for the next week." Like, my client is lending you $33 million, do you really need to take a week off with no email right now?

Always been a fan of FIRE and reading about it has definitely helped my finances but I can’t help but wonder if the movement is more about lifestyle change than early retirement.

After you achieve FI,you basically have to maintain the lifestyle that got you there.

What if you want to go on a lavish vacation or buy that flatscreen TV? Are you supposed to do away with material goods entirely? I suppose you could keep working for discretionary $ and live off interest but then you’re not retired.

1. My employer offers a 401k plan

2.) Im over the income limit

When I left consulting, I got paid out for my PTO, and I received a signing bonus with my new company. I expect my income will be significantly higher this year than it will be for a while. After 3 years of dealing with the worst firm I've ever had the displeasure of working for, I finally landed my dream gig at a small specialty firm. The people at the new firm are all SMEs featured in and contributors to the most notable business publications in the world, less than 100 employees, better benefits, unlimimted PTO, doubled my pay and landed a senior role.

Keep looking for what you want and deserve. I'm happy to be forging a better path away from what I've had to endure.
