Oh wow I’ve seen the opposite. Our in office culture was like a 10a start maybe 930. But wfh was like 830/9.

From my experience in Philly and Chicago, the train schedule determines working hours more than anything. I know in my current office everyone seems to roll in around 9:30-10:00 which I find strange.

Haha. I was lucky enough to be blue line.

In DC it’s to avoid traffic and get to Happy Hour on time. Call it a culture of embracing convenience.

It sounds like you might like a firm that gives you more autonomy.

I’m at a midsized firm, but my general experience is the opposite - that working later is favored over working earlier.

I’m curious what size firm and what sizes city you’re in OP. Sounds more like a medium sized firm and city issue than a BigLaw issue. What I’ve concluded from my similar experiences back in yesteryear is that partners tend to get in earlier in part because of having kids. Basically, after having kids for years and being responsible for getting them up and ready and maybe even getting them to school, people that are partner aged tend to not be able to sleep very late, so they get into the office early. Of course, they then go on to judge others by their norms (not always a surprising thing given that they’re the bosses).

I’m at a boutique in a medium sized city and I am the same way. I’ve told my team that I’m far more productive at night and that I’m not going to work before 9:30am, but I will work as late as I have to in order to get things done. It’s been working out great so far. I agree with A3 that you’d be better suited for a firm that gives you more autonomy!

Good to know it’s not just me! That’s exactly how I feel. I really love my firm otherwise, I just have started notice the comments and the praise heaped on associates who are there at 7am. Sorry but in the absence of an emergency (which I’m fine with!) that will not be happening with me, lol.

Thanks for all the responses! Interesting to see that my experience seems to maybe be an outlier. A1, you’re correct - medium sized firm in medium sized city, not a biglaw issue.

With new considerations for full-time remote work given the pandemic, has anyone heard of hires internationally at agencies? For example, if an agency office in London has a remote option, do they even consider candidates from the U.S. or will the time difference be too great to make it work?

Honestly... I feel like an ungrateful daughter for saying this but I cannot wait to leave my parent’s house. I’ve been WFH here since my job started in September, and I’ve loved being able to make up for lost time with them. But although they say they’re happy I’m home and want me to stay longer, I feel like I’ve wayy overstayed my welcome because everyone is irritable all the time and we now bring out the worst in each other. I’m constantly anxious about accidentally pissing someone off. Cont’d

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

My firm recently announced that they were beginning a reservation system for hoteling starting February of 2022 for offices . We were told to clear out our offices by December 31,2022 . The lease is not up for renewal until June 2024 at which point they will look to reduce their office space due to a hybrid work model . My issue is what incentive do I have to make a reservation to go to an office when I can simply continue work from home hassle free. Any Thoughts and comments?
