What is it about the advertising/marketing industry that makes 80 hour work weeks acceptable? The industry needs to inform clients that it's not ok, it needs to come from within to set new standards for acceptable practice. As agencies take this to heart, protect their people from burn out and say "no", clients will no longer expect ridiculous turnarounds.

Account managers who can't say no to clients are a major issue. They are terrified of losing the client or getting bad client feedback scores which affect their bonus.

like

I don’t think it will ever change as they are too afraid of losing the client as they can still easily go to someone who will tell them “yes”. I had the same experience many years ago, got seriously burned out and switched from consulting to working inside product companies instead and have never looked back. From what you describe it seems like nothing has changed in 10 years and I doubt it will.

like

I left a Publicis agency for this reason alone and will never go back until that regime changes. In that particular circumstance it was the account team that was terrified to say no to the client about anything and the client took advantage of that. Until we were fed up and half the office quit over a months time and they wondered “why oh why is this happening??”

I have often found that you can curb this by adding fees for short turn around projects or projects with short notice. You can have a project that is quality, and done quickly, but it will not be cheap. You can have a project that is quality, done on an acceptable timeline, and is cheap. You can have a project that is low quality, done quickly, and is cheap. You can't ever have quality, speed, and low cost at the same time.

..and that’s what the client wants. Every client, every time

Having reasonable hours for employees health and sanity is a definitely a plus/ideal. Timing may not be on the Client/Company’s side and the concept start to finish may just need to get out there “yesterday” hence the 80+ hour work week. Maybe a way around that so that hours do become “normal” initially have a group meeting so that everyone is on the same page, separate total time into shifts between designers working on the project and that overlap each other so work info can be relayed from the prior shift kind of like a tag team idea🤔🤫

My husband has been a restaurant manager for over 10 years (GM for 5). He worked at one place for 8 years and another for 5 (wasn’t a manager at first at the other place) - so he’s consistent and dependable. But he’s ready to keep normal hours and transition into corporate…. But it’s been tough with no “relevant” experience.

Hi,
I am done with all round of TCS even started with a negotiation round too. First call HR said we can give you 16lpa including variables. I have tried to go for a fixed 16lpa. And now she says Management only afford 12lpa. Even at the same time she says you deserve 14-15lpa fixed as per market, the mangt can only afford 12lpa. Back to back call from HR. Doc verification started what it means? They have a good budget as far as I know from consultancy.

Ex:6 BA current CTC 8.5.
Please suggest.

Have you ever being offered a job without an extensive interview process? Just by seeing your work or portfolio and talking to you once to get to know you a little.

I'm working on a logo for a client, they need to be spoon-fed things. I am struggling to determine how to present the icon side of the logo as well as the text side.

I have 4 logo versions to present and a handful of type options because this client needs options to avoid back and forth.

Have you found it easier to show the same font/lockup on all logos or keep text and logo separate?
