What is life like after 10/15 for Big 4 Tax? Can you take long vacations (3weeks - 1 month) after 10/15?

Warning: please don't believe those who say that it is slow after 10/15. I heard the same lies about post 4/15 period and don't believe anything they say anymore.

Then you're golden, but I'd make sure you document that with the teams you are on and scheduling to get on your schedule.

Ah but don't forget accounting methods work due 12/31....rest is for the weak. Crank out those charge hours!

December is lighter than November. Unless it's something major or pre-approved in writing by your teams, I would not suggest a month long vacation.

@EY1 - What if your vacation was already planned before joining the new firm and you already communicated that to the hiring partner and HR during the interview and they were fine with it?

Thanks! I am still a little nervous but they wanted me to start right away, not after my vacation. Btw, why is December the lightest month? Due to the holidays?

Your clients tend to take off too, that's why. But note it's lighter not down, it's still busy.

I know. We always have work bc of extensions, estimates, notices, etc...but just want to cover myself bc I did communicate with them in-person and over emails before accepting the offer.

My understanding for after 10/15 is you are still busy but with all of the above and planning.

In our office three week vacations in December are probably fine. November and October you can probably get away with two weeks out of the office

Consulting picks up after returns are filed too.

It depends... if you prepare provisions for clients, mid to late October is Q3, and December can get busy prepping for year end. I don't really ever see much down time.
