That’s also part of the problem for most 😂

They are two very different roles at Salesforce. "EA" is a paid pre-sales engagement role that maps out high level strategy for what clouds to be in / how to prioritize and integrate. Their methodology and output is very nice but it's still pre-sales. PA, on the other hand, provides a mix of advisory on "how" to implement new features / apps / integrations, as well as analysis of current state with optimization recommendations / design using a number of commodity (e.g. Splunk) and proprietary (e.g. Black Tab) tools to assist. Increasingly PA's also do implementation / SOW work on teams of varying size - in fact I would argue that this is the norm for any new employee going forward, or existing employees moving to a new client. Agree with the recommendation on Application + System architect certs for PA. You don't have to be that far coming in, but it will be required of you to attain. A lot of PA's pursue and get the CTA, and the hiring process is like a junior version of that - be prepared to get deep on the "system" side of the pyramid in your technical interview, and the final panel is like the boards except you get to define the problem case too, not just solve it, and have days to weeks to prepare; but make sure you can address all aspects of people, process, and technology, and present it to an executive audience who will poke at your reasoning.

Thank you. Very helpful. I have done a lot of arch work > 15 years and have been involved in Salesforce projects as a lead architect for the last 5 years. This helps!

Target the system and application architect certs. Experience is even more important.

I have offers with Bain (Sr mgr) and BCG (PL2), and will be focusing on their PE practices. I know Bain is the leader in PE work, but having trouble deciding which offer to go for. Biggest factors for me to consider is career progression (in consulting), culture, optionality in the types of deals/projects. My conflict right now is I had better interactions with BCG interviewers and initially leaned that way, but the infrastructure & market presence of Bain in this space is strong. Thoughts?
